Our fourth time in Tuscany, but our first at Fornelli’s excellent restaurant in Volterra. From now on, this Epicurean delight will be on our highest priority! We ask to split everything’s they gave us each our own presentation beautifully dressed! Amazing is all I have to say!

My wife and I waved goodbye to three adult children, their partners and two children apiece ( six grandkids in all). We all decamped from our wonderful Agriturismo farm house and whilst the younger crew took off to different parts of Italy we headed to Volterra which we explored and as lunch loomed we strolled to a panoramic viewing point and there was this Osteria. Beautiful tableware, a warm welcome and an unusual menu pulled us in. The whole team is small and commited and the fare comes with some welcome offerings such as a choice of real home made bread (generally my experience of bread in Tuscany was poor) and wonderful peppery oil. Two starters of exceptional character and a beautifully cooked fillet of beef which we shared and a lovely glass of wine and we left feeling delighted at our experience. In the evening with a sunset on offer this would be exceptional.

It’s fine and the food is OK, but nothing like as good as I think they like to think it is.
Staff were awkward about an under cooked steak which was still moo’ing. It happens I know, but they didn’t seem bothered and it came back pretty much was it went away - bloody.
The view is great but it is the other side of car parking - beware the very low wall with a big drop.
Disappointed really.

We found this by accident on a day trip to Volterra. It was excellent from beginning to finish. 11 of us ate and every person enjoyed every thing they ordered. The lasagna is fantastic as well as all of the pastas we had. The staff is attentive and so humble to all of the praise we were giving them. We loved it so much , we thought of making the two hour trek the next day just to eat here again.

Ate dinner here with the family. The location was beautiful. Popular sunset spot. Service was great to start, but got worse as the place got crowded. That said it was still very good. Prices were reasonable and the selection was good. We had pasta dishes, which were all excellent. The grilled octopus was very good. The pasta with truffles was great. Paired it all with a nice Rosso Di Montalcino 24 eur.
