The problem with white is that it's got to be immaculate. The problem with trimmed down, minimalist hotel decoration is that there are so few elements in the picture that every single one of them must be able to withstand very close examination.

Even though it is set in an altogether uninteresting location of Vieste, the White Hotel looks good from the outside and when in the lobby, and the staff's welcome is nice. The pool looks cool but is virtually unusable, being extremely narrow, and the bottom in the corners appears suspiciously yellow (as in: unclean). The rooms, unfortunately, are not up to par, and nor are the facilities in this hotel that supposedly boasts 4 stars. They are spacious but not overly so, some have a balcony, some have a larger terrace (we had one of those). The beds are wide and comfortable.

However, the rooms are beginning to show their age --already, even though the hotel is obviously recent: chipped paint, a chipped bathroom sink (photo), faucets that let out too much wAter too quickly (used joint issue), unsavory smells wafting out of the sink when in use, etc. The shower cabin is much too small, there is no handheld shower attachment, only a "top down" one, not practical at all: you can't decide where the water stream goes, and you can't keep it running without being drenched (cabin is too small to step away). Plus the fact that you can never obtain really hot water, no matter how long you try. Of course, this is Summer, so it doesn't matter really; however, this is not what a 4-star hotel is supposed to be like. Anyway, this shower is a real pain. Add to that the lack of adequate shelf space and of tissues, and the bathroom's fate is pretty much sealed.

Back in the bedroom, the air conditioning cannot be set below 20 degrees Celsius, and of course that's what we will nicely call a "target figure": the thing keeps humming ineffectively and never gets even close to 20 degrees.

Wanna try to cool down on the web? Tough luck: no network in our room!

Both problems were mentioned to Reception and were met with adequately concerned faces and promises of fixes. Of course, nothing at all changed until our departure, two days later.

Next chapter: breakfast. The first morning, we came somewhat late, around 10:15, but breakfast, we had been told, is served until 11:30. Well, the buffet looked like a battlefield, long after the battle has been fought! To put it simply, there were not hot foods left, scrambled eggs gone, only the Italian pastries, fruit and yoghurt remained. And when I inquired (remember, there was still more than one hour of breakfast time left!), I was simply told to cook myself an egg or two... and no, there wouldn't be any more scrambled eggs coming. Very, very disappointing, and decidedly not up to 4-star standards. And it's not finished: the third morning, we entered the top-floor (not air-conditioned, sweltering when there's no breeze at all) breakfast room at 9:25, the perfect time... and... suspense: no more scrambled eggs!! This time I made a comment and some eggs were brought to me a few minutes afterwards... but still no replenishment of the buffet dish! Unbelievable.

The next morning, we had a boat to catch for a day trip, so we were super early, around 7:15. No problem, we had been told (again) breakfast was served from 7:00. Well, that time it was the other way around, and it's only as we were leaving, around 7:45, that interesting foods began to appear...

One closing comment: this hotel's contribution to the motto "Why make it simple when you can make it complicated?" resides in the rooms' numbering system. I mean, for the last half-century or so, we've all been used to the scheme where rooms on floor 5 have numbers beginning with 5 (501, 502 and so on), rooms on floor 8 have 8xx numbers, etc. Well, here, rooms with 2xx numbers are on floor 1 (as numbered in the elevator), rooms with 3xx numbers are on floor 2, and so on. This is probably the only "modern" hotel in the world with such a dumb system, so better make a note of it.

In summary, if you're not broad-shouldered, don't mind the absence of decent airco or breakfast, and don't need Internet, the White might be good for you. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

Dear Mr. Blue, we are sorry you had so much problem all together. Sometimes could happen. The holiday is like a libra, if there is only the smallest weight add on the wrong scales it will seem everything is a disaster and let forget the good things we had. Anyway we fixed WiFi, clean swimming pool, as well hot water and so. Air conditioning it works as ever, sometime it's a button problems, we promise to keep simply the remote control. Only one thing we would like to contradict you, our brunch. We know that the food it depends on the taste of each other, but lots of people praise our brunch that is served from 7,30 to 12,00 and the buffet is refilled several times. You just need a bit of patience.
We hope to have you again as our guest and with some you suggestion we'll find new dish for our brunch.
Best regards,

Near to the beach, beautiful hotel with very nice location (15min walk of the town center), quiet place and friendly employees. Room are clean but bathroom a bit too small. Swimming pool is disappointing. But breakfast is so excellent !! A lot of choice of sugar and salted meal. Reception desk is very helpful as we have to print some paper for the airport. Price is very good for the service rendered!

We booked this hotel for a few days of lazing on the beach following a brilliant road trip round Puglia. We struggled to find it at first but once there it was great. Easy parking. 5 minutes to the beautiful beach, 20 minutes easy and scenic stroll to old Vieste, so away from the crowds & noise of Vieste at night (lovely to visit but not to stay, for me) and perfect distance to walk back past the marina, along the beach road, looking at the stars and hearing the swish of waves. Very romantic, and good for walking off the pasta before bed!

Very stylish & practical architecture. I concede the room was quite small comparable to other hotels, but it was a great bargain price and who wants to sit in their room in a beach resort anyway?! It was all clean, fresh and contemporary fittings in bedroom & bathroom. A nice size balcony with views up to the olive grove hills and down to the beach, with a few buildings in between. Plus a thoughtful touch of a small drying rack for towels etc - so much more convenient than draping across the backs of chairs. A small, modern pool terrace but we didn't use it.

Staff were great, especially the breakfast & bar staff, and all were ready with a smile and a greeting. Breakfast was one of the best I've seen in years - more of a brunch spread and clearly a chef who liked to show off his skills, and we liked being a bit naughty and taking our breakfast out onto the balcony (where the tables were not made up...) to look at the Italian sky & sea and catch the morning sun. I'd strongly recommend that you do the same...

Dear Miss Faye, thank you very much for your review, but most of all thank you for your stay by us. We are glad you appreciated our old town and marina, and the perfect distance between them and our hotel. As you told, our rooms are perfect to sleep or enjoy the time on veranda and not waste the vacation indoor. Come to visit us again, our brunch is different every day, anyway all that you saw it's not complete at all.

Best regards

We had traveled for a couple of weeks in Italy and spent wonderful days. People, food, nature were amazing. Then, we got to White Hotel in Vieste. In the midnight, we woke up and thought somebody was in our room! But, it turns out that the voice was from the next room. Do you believe this? We heard every single word of people in the next room, even the sound of urination. Do you believe this? After that, we could not sleep at all and had to pay much attention not to make any sounds. Do you believe this in a 4 star hotel in the world? We could accept this situation in a hostel, but ??? Our booking was 2 night, but one employee kindly suggested either room change or checking-out after one night with one night charge. We decided to check-out and had to book another hotel for the next night and finally could get a hotel. For sure the hotel booking at the day was non-refundable. Then, we went to the front desk to check-out and surprisingly they asked us to pay for 2 days! The hotel manager yelled at us, "The words the employee said is not important because he is not an important person for here!!!" I was like ??? The hotel manager even said, "It is your fault. You believe the employee!" After all, he shouted, "The door is open! Get out of here!!! Bye!!!" Actullay, I felt so sorry for the employee... This experience ruined our fantastic travel in Italy. If you would like to be silent in a hotel room paying attention not to make any sounds and would like to be yelled at by a hotel manager, please choose this hotel, otherwise don't. Don't expect "4 star" level for the room and the hotel manager. In addition, don't expect "fitness gym". There are only two machines next to the small pool...

Room Tip: Please ask the hotel whether you can talk in the room.

This hotel is in front of a decent beach. Its design is quite modern. The pool is small but beatiful. Rooms are fairly good. Private free parking. Good breakfast. Service is friendly. We have been in August for less than 100 euro per night. Great value.
