We arrived early and chose to sit in the glass enclosed terrace with a view across the Bay of Naples to Vesuvius. Perfect!
The next thing that impressed us was the Maitre D' and the staff. We were made to feel as welcome as if we were family, and the Maitre D' was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about every dish served. Instead of the more typical memorized recital of each dish, it felt as if he was the chef and had personally pick every tomato.
We chose the 8 course tasting menu, but they actually served us 22 different items, each flawless. The menu is heavily accented towards seafood - small morsels of choice fish, calamari, scallops or crab but always in combination with 2 or 3 other ingredients that surprised and complemented the dish, such as local cheese in grilled zucchini or caviar perched on the seafood.
There were also some novel textures, such as a light crab dish with a strong crab bisque accompaniment, or a red fish with a pudding that intensified the experience. The tomato risotto with hints of lemon was particularly memorable as was the broth with 10 kinds of pasta of different textures. There was only one meat dish - two kinds of crispy pork, which did not disappoint.
When it came to desserts, we were already completely full, but even there interesting combinations (such as a sliver of parmesan over a small pudding) tempted us.
The wine list is extensive, but we sought the sommeliers advice for only two glasses of white - which were both local and excellent.
The bill was remarkable reasonable for the quality of the menu, the setting and the service - we would expect to pay twice as much for a similar restaurant in New York.
Congratulations to the chef and staff.
PS our photos the various dishes are not as good as what you will find on Instagram.
