We went for lunch - langoustines to start, lobster and sea bream to follow. There were touches which were top rate - the langoustines were on a bed of green beans and a tomato coulis that was very fine, and my sea bream had a dusting of dried red peppers which showed technique. Puddings were really good too, and the licorice and eucalyptus was a taste combination I had never had before. But as well as the food, the whole experience was very enjoyable. Three front of house staff who couldn't have been friendlier, and just the right amount of attention. Not OTT price wise, and happy on sharing starters or puddings if thats what you want. Really worth a visit if you are in Viareggio.

We came to Viareggio on a spontaneous whim. Googled a restaurant and came to this one. We had no expectations so imagine our surprise at discovering this fine dining experience. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has the most incredible seafood. The manager and staff are warm and always available to answer questions. They are able to give recommendations for food and wine as well.

If you are here, Definitely go for the seafood. It is fresh and cooked to perfection.

Our daughter who has several food allergies, had a lot to choose from.

We walked in off the street casually dressed on a weeknight (as we were renting very close) without knowing what to expect or whether they will have us. The owner graciously greeted us without hesitation and showed us the menu to get a better idea of the cuisine. We knew it was fine dining in relation to what was in the area but we were pleasantly surprised as to how hospitable they were (probably wouldn't have happened on a busy Friday or Saturday night without reservation). Here's a lesson to the amateurs: have an idea of where you're going and don't show up on a peak night expecting to be fully accommodated. We were taken to a lovely table and offered all the service points of VIPs with a reservation. Waiters were a little stuffy and dated in their generic black suits, but a little old school class is fine with us. We then proceeded to have one of the most memorable meals in all of our international journeys. The confidence of the young kitchen staff shined in all the dishes; very direct and not hiding behind smears, sauces and gaudy presentations. Seafood heavy, great wine selection and options. Room is not too large, just the right lighting and well executed. We returned for a tasting menu with wine pairing a week or so after, a little better dressed. The consistency and quality of food was still there. A gem in a strip of mostly casual joints and take away pizza fare catering to vacationers and jaded locals.

We had had a number of recommendations about Romano's and the comment that Viarregio had become a foodie place. We visited Romano's on the Second night of a short stay in Viarregio. It surpassed what we were expecting. Pleasant surroundings. Attentive service without being intrusive. The menu was provided in Italian with separate English text. Everything sounded gorgeous. We ate early so didn't have the benefit of seeing in advance what others were having. It didn't matter. Everything was excellent. We both decided on a pasta dish to start. Ravioli with turbot presented like little buttons. Tagliiolini with a variety of crustaceans. Both were delicious. Main courses were sea bass and lobster and jumbo shrimps. Gorgeous. Deserts were a local desert from Viarregio which was lighter than we could believe. The sorbets were refreshing and each was served separately!!! What to do? Eat them one at a time or a bit of each?
We expected the meal to be expensive but it was less than anticipated and there were a number of nice touches. For the amuse bouche we received one of the antipasti on the menu. This was complimentary as were the petit fours. The wine list was extensive as was the price range. We had a very well priced Pieropan La Rocca for about half the price at home!! The meal was preceded by a complimentary glass of cava and ended with a complimentary glass of Asti Moscato with the desert.
Overall a really enjoyable night. Very interesting to watch regulars discuss with the team various items on the menu. We plan to try other restaurants in Viarregio but I would be happy to work my way through Romano's menu over a number of visits.

We went on a Thursday night in late September, and the restaurant was not crowded at all. Dining room is very modern looking. We enjoyed a bottle of Vernaccia, zucchini flowers, pasta, and fish. Everything was delicious . Service was first rate.
