hidden gem off the main ski runs. We went there with a ski guide then stumbled upon it again later in the week.We only had a coffee and hot chocolates but both were very nice. Its a bit a secret place..you have to know where to go but worth the detour.

Stayed: December 2014

Brilliant little find off the side of piste red 29. Proper lunch with very good menu and wine list. Well worth straying off the main pistes for. When you spot the owner of one of the best Sauze restaurants eating here, you guess you've selected well and you're not wrong!

Just returned from a delightful week at Ciao Pais, a skidoo ride up the mountain from Sauze d'Oulx. It is family-run, friendly, warm, full of character, and Rufus the friendly cat is the star attraction! The food is excellent, and copious, both at breakfast and in the evenings. It is testimony to the quality of the food that people get skidooed up the mountain for supper, even when not staying there, and the restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, go for the more expensive rooms. The lodge is being refurbished, and the cheaper rooms are far less luxurious, although clean and comfortable. The bathrooms in the cheaper rooms, however, really need updating. However, that was eclipsed by the overall friendliness of the place and the owners.

I don't know where to begin, because every element of the stay was perfect. First: the people - it's run by a single family, all of whom are engaging, helpful, smiling and effiicient. Mirko (manger, excellent English) simply could not be more accommodating and friendly. Second: the food - a gastronomic masterpiece, all local recipes, fabulous ingredients, monster porrtions; and half board gives you open access to the capacious menu, all for a modest set price. And there's a great cellar, too. Third: the rooms - cosy, mountain atmosphere, spotless and serviced daily - we were lucky enough to have a free upgrade to a suite. Fourth: position - step out of breakfast on to your skis and you're the first on the Sauze slopes. And in the evening - take the last lift and ski back to your mulled wine on the welcoming terrace. Access the hotel by skidoo - Mirko does everything, picks you up, collects luggage from your car down below while you ski, takes your skis back to hire shop as you hurry off to catch your flight home. Honestly: this is the best possible skiing destination.

My 10th time back at Ciao Pais skiing, weather was amazing if a little too warm. The Hotel was as usual spotlessly clean. The new suite is very well appointed. The food in the restaurant is all fantastic...especially the steaks and the goose breast. Mirko and the rest of the staff are a delight and nothing is too much for them. So good we have booked for 2016 and 2017 so if you want to got the the most charming ski chalet in the alps book early. ...Also the skiing is very very good !!

Room Tip: New Suite is great as is the older one.... all rooms are fantastic but top floor is great for teh views
