I brought my partner here for her birthday based on the TripAdvisor rating, the gorgeous white-and-red decor, and the pistachio-crusted lamb chops currently on the menu. What we got was an experience unlike any other we’ve had. A family-run establishment that clearly takes a great deal of pride in the quality of its food, Al Volt is unmissable if you’re in Riva Del Garda. The amuse bouche of pumpkin soup with a hint of curry was perfect after a chilly walk to the restaurant. Our first courses—homemade spaghetti with black truffle, and fresh eggplant tortellini—were astoundingly delicious, as were the mains. The service throughout the meal was impeccable.
Then dessert became its own event. The fruit sorbets—all of them served *inside* the fruits from whence they came—were tasty, and the dish itself was wildly inventive. Then they brought out free dark chocolate brownies. And *THEN* just as I was getting up to pay the bill, the lights went dim and “Happy Birthday” started playing in English. The family who runs the place brought out a tiny little ice cream-based dessert with a candle in it. We left smiling, full, and certain that we would never forget our time here. I can’t recommend highly enough.
