Villa Giampa is tucked up in the hillside of Praiano and has a remarkable view of the Tyrrhenian Sea and perfumed by the basil and lemon trees growing on the property. The property itself is not accessible by car - that's right, you have to use brute force to carry your luggage up, but it is definitely worth the 100+ steps from the road once you enter the Villa gates.
The Villa is a well appointed, well maintained and clean Villa with 3 ensuite bedrooms - 2 with vistas of the Sea, hillside and town. The eat in kitchen is large by European standards and was well stocked with cooking essentials. The terrace is shaded and has plenty of space to entertain and to dine al fresco.
We were a family of 10 (extended ) with 5 kids between 3 families, with the grandparents and European relatives staying just up the hill. The Villa had plenty of room to spread out, relax, sunbathe, be transfixed by the view, with enough privacy for each family.
The upper sun deck had comfortable sitting areas that were shaded from the beautiful and warm Mediterranean sun - perfect for an afternoon of hanging out by the pool.
Off to the side of the pool was the lemon grove - amazing! The beautiful lemons made their way into some fresh lemonade and cooking while we were there.
The Villa supplied plenty of beach towels for everyone, and for 20 euros, we had the cleaning lady come in and freshen up during our 2 week stay.
Life in Villa Giampa was a wonderful experience and we lived like the Italians for 2 weeks and loved it. We walked or took transit everywhere - the publico stops at the base of the stairs from the walkway or, further up by Hotel Margharita.
By the end of our 3rd day in Praiano, our legs started to get conditioned from the climbing - but what a great way to stay fit on holiday. And it forced us to buy fresh and only what we need per day from Tuto per Tutti - the small grocerteria at the base of the road (where it turns sharply).
You won't need a car in Praiano - we parked ours for 2 weeks - and were lucky to have a spot to park in. Parking is very tricky - luckily Paolo, our property manager helped us navigate through the meanings of the coloured lines.
The wifi was spotty in Praiano, but they worked hard to correct the issue - it didn't reach very far, but hey - when you're in a place like Praiano in a beautiful Villa, devices become quite redundant.
We walked into the Village of Praiano almost daily and to the small beach at least twice. Pack only the essentials and it's a good 20 minute walk - the downhill is the easy part!
If we were to return to Praiano in a large group, I definitely would not hesitate to rent this Villa again. It's centrally located, clean, airy and the view will take your breath away.
Sipping an ice cold Lemoncello on a clear night watching the twinkling lights of the Mediterranean was our favourite time - especially after everyone else went to bed.
