“The Last Supper”

Pane Vino & Zucchero
Ranked #3 of 105 Restaurants in Montepulciano
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$12 - US$24
Description: Pane vino & zucchero is not a restaurant , but rather a " cucineria " which is a place where you eat well, drink and enjoy yourself with your friends and family . The word perfectly describes our eatery where we warmly welcome our guests and share with them this traditional Tuscan philosophy. Here you will taste a simplified version of our local specialities, served with a new modern twist whilst still respecting the culture and traditions of the food from this area of Italy and above all using seasonal products . The result of our unique formula is that we have chosen to offer you a menu where you eat well on a fair budget whilst sharing good food with us and your friends and family in an intoxicating environment.

The best meal we had in Italy. Definitely vegetarian friendly. Large selection of wines and quaint venue. Combination of flavours were amazing

So happy to have found this special restaurant. Been here 2 nights running. On the first night we were desperate for salads and vegetables (having been in italy for several weeks and feeling overweight with pasta and meat)so had the vegetarian platter, the mixed herb salad and the spinach salad. Fantastic - everything so fresh and interesting! Returned tonight and shared the rustic green salad and then the sausage and fennel pasta and the pici with meat sauce. Everything so delicious and refreshingly 21stC. Panacotta was sublime too. Service and ambience - wonderful. Highly recommended!

we had three great meals in our 4 nights in montepulciano. this was one. a very nice space. we were seated promptly without a reservation. I had the pasta with rabbit and my wife had another pasta dish. we both also had salads and spilt a dessert. the food was all great. our waiter was great. we asked him for his choice between two wines and he suggested a different bottle ( montemercurio vino nobile) this turned out to be our favorite wine in our 2 weeks in italy. we ended up visiting the winery and ordered a case of wine to be shipped home.

This restaurant was highly recommended by our hotel’s concierge, and we were unequivocally not disappointed!

The interior is beautiful and spacious, with brick walls lined with wine bottles, and brick arches accentuating the ceiling. The service is friendly, proficient, and not overbearing, and the wine selection is phenomenal. They have an amazing array of Nobile del Montepulciano wines.

However, it’s the food that shines the brightest.

Be sure and try both the beautifully-arranged, artistic, and tasty salads, and all the pasta was as expected exceptional. The onion soup was incredible.

Prices are more than reasonable for this level of quality.

The acid test? Yes, we went back a second time during our brief four-evening visit in Montepulciano ... and we wish we could go tomorrow!

This warm and welcoming restaurant was recommended to me by a local. It is charmingly decorated in modern Italian country style. The food was exceptional. I had a salad with fruit, a ravioli with contemporary flare and l'osso bucco. I was very comfortable dining there as a single. The wine, of course, was fantastic.
