A lovely italian villa!

Review of Hotel Italia
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 Jun 2015
Struggling to move after our wonderful meal at La Peniche, we found this hotel on the seaside and got a room including breakfast for an incredibly low price. The builiding is an old italian villa, which the present owners are very proud to tell you about, how they kept everything in the style it was originally built, including the fresques on the ceilings in the rooms simply surrounded by garland-like blue paint! By the way, those celings are very high, and the view we had on the port was lovely. The bathroom was a bit small and the hot water very very long in arriving, but the room was quite large and comfortable. The breakfast spread was incredible, varied and disposed in a lovely room. All in all, not a place for those who like very slick and modern hotels, but a wonderful friendly place for those who seek a different kind of experience. No elevator.

Room Tip: We loved our room with the sea view

We lucked out when we found this hotel. The establishment is owned and run by a family who have done so for 25 years. The room was very comfortable and we were right near the outdoor terrace. While enjoying the sun and sea view on the terrace, the owner surprised us with Prosecco to celebrate our wedding Anniversary. He went out of his way to make our stay there comfortable and memorable. Parking was free at rear of hotel. We would definitely stay there again.

We were travelling in Italy in October 2014 and we didn't pre-book the first few nights accommodation. It was late afternoon when we had decided to call it a day but had spent 20 mins driving through a coastal strip that looked a bit like a ghost town (not peak season in late October!). We saw the tower of Hotel Italia and decided to try it, thinking it might be a bit over our (low) budget but it was quite good value including breakfast. The staff were so lovely (and quirky) and we loved the old style of the hotel. Our room was quite spacious and the views from the back of the hotel out to the mountains were beautiful. The views from the front hotel public balcony over the ocean was lovely at sunset. We enjoyed a delicious aperitif in the hotel bar before heading out for dinner. Breakfast was quite plentiful with a lot of typically Italian breakfast items that my kids made the most of. All in all, I thought it was great value and the quirkiness, views and style of the hotel suited us perfectly. If you are after super expensive, flash new, soul-less hotel then this place is not for you. Thanks for our stay and for taking our picture out the front of the hotel for us! We would come and stay again should we be in the area.
