arrived a day late after missing my connecting flight to venice. we arrived around midday, and had to wait 30 minutes for a member of staff to come to the reception desk to check us in. while waiting, i had a walk round the reception, and to my disgust, everything was covered in dust and cobwebs. When someone eventually came, we tried to communicate the best we could, but the woman spoke very little english, but tried her best.

we are currently in room 105. the advertising of the hotel couldn’t be further from the truth. we looked around the room, and again, everything covered in dust. air con not working, shower & shower head covered in mould, and the plug hole in the shower is blocked partially. windows don’t open. cigarette burn mark on the sheets. i could go on, but you get the idea...

after only staying here one night, and hardly sleeping after being in a 28 degree room, we are wanting to leave. we have been contacting booking.com since we got here, who have all these pictures below on file. as the staff don’t speak english, booking.com got their italian customer services team to ring the hotel. after a few calls back and forth between us and the hotel, we have been told by the management that they are not accepting our complaint and we can check out early, but with no refund.

we have no choice but to be here, as we are a young couple on a budget, with not enough disposable income to just throw £200 away, pack up, and try somewhere else.

this is a disgrace of a business/hotel. do not stay here. id be giving less than 1 star if i could. customer service, cleanliness & hygiene is appalling.

the worst thing about this hotel? it would be a lovely place to stay, if only some TLC went into it...and bleach!

What an awful place, I cannot believe it is advertised on booking.com. We travelled there for an overnight stay in October prior to going on a cruise. There was a family of four and my friend and I. When we arrived outside the 5 year old who was with us said "what a dump" and on entering the property we could see he wasn't far wrong! There was no lift and had to manoeuvre the stairs with a pushchair, luggage and two small children. The room was very dark and reminded us of the Adams Family film! There was a strange bunk bed in the room I shared with my friend, which hardly looked safe and so wasn't used. There was a fridge but not sure why as there was no coffee or tea making facilities and nowhere to get one either as the vending machine had broken. There was also nowhere to get any breakfast. The shower door fell off and we had to prop it up in order to have a shower. The bar wasnt open at all and we were told it only opened in the winter. Absolutely dire, avoid this place at all costs!!

Room Tip: Don't think there are any...!

Because we were looking for a hotel that just screamed Italy, we went with a place off the beaten path. This hotel was part of a flight/hotel/car package. It turned out to be one of the worst places I’ve ever stayed. Staff (the one woman) was horribly rude. Nothing in the room worked. I was afraid of the shower. The bed felt like a rock. Mold and mildew everywhere. There were roaches crawling on the ceiling. We ended up cutting our loses and vacated. I’d rather sleep in the rental car than stay another night there. The entire time we were there, we never did see any other guests. I truly feel taken advantage of.

Our travel agent booked this property for us so we didn't do our due diligence and check reviews; if we had we would not have stayed here. The bad reviews are all justified. This place may have been OK 15 years ago but is in need of a face lift. There is garbage on what was once a lawn; the shower was mouldy. The pictures make the property look great; how do you spell "photo shop"! There is a restaurant....but it is not open. They do not provide any sort of shuttle service as claimed. There is a continental breakfast provided at 8 euro but not worth it. The staff was not helpful. This Hotel is in a subdivision with little around it ( we did find a good restaurant about a 15 min. walk away). It is about a 30 minute drive to Venice; we took a local bus, it was a fifteen minute walk to the bus stop and 30 min. ride, so "minutes" from the city is not accurate. We tried to get a refund so we could move but were told no. I would not recommend this hotel.

So me and my partner booked our holiday to Venice for our year anniversary together. We saw hotel villa dori online and were very excited as we saw the photos and it looked amazing for the price. We got our plane there, but when we arrived at the airport we were told it would take us 4 hours to get there! Despite it being advertised as close to Venice. We decided to get  a taxi which was very expensive but only half am hour as opposed to 4 hours.

We arrived there at 9pm and walked towards the entrance where there was an angry looking woman and a child. The woman scowled at us and then walked into the hotel and down a corridor. We assumed this must have been a disgruntled guest. We were then greeted by an elderly receptionist who did not speak English and we tried using Google translate and our phrase book to communicate with her. We told her we wanted to book the shuttle bus to Venice for the next day but all we were told was "tomorrow! 7.30am". We were hungry after travelling but were told that the restaurant was closed, instead we had the option of stale croissants from the vending machine. She gave us a key and pointed us in a vague direction of our room after making a comment about us being two males and questioning why we booked a double room. The obvious answer is that we are a couple. We wondered through the corridor which was in total darkness and we had to use our smart phones to find our room, but eventually found it at room 130.

We opened the door to smell a musty smell and what can only be described as an unclean room. We were shocked as the hotel looked nothing like their website or brochure. It was very run down. The room was decorated in a traditional Venetian style and had a karma sutra adult theme. The bed was four poster with drapes and looked nice...however the floor was dirty and there were bed bugs as well as bugs in the bathroom. We tried sleeping in the bed but the bed had no duvet cover... the bed was rock hard and very itchy. The television was small and only had a few channels, and you could not see it from the bed. The only form of ventilation was a door that led onto the street. So of you wanted air whilst you slept, you would need to leave the door open which left you vulnerable to theft. The main door did not lock from The inside either. The air con did not work either so we were left sweating, hot and itchy, so could not sleep. What made it worse is the fact the walls were thin so we could hear everything the neighbours above us and either side of us were saying or doing, including text tones. There was also lots of shouting going on outside the front of the hotel so we were kept awake all night. Not to mention the creaking furniture and bed that felt like it was going to break. There was also no Wi-Fi so we were enable to keep ourselves entertained despite this being advertised. This only further added to our low mood.

After being awake all night we decided to freshen up in a hope to stop looking like a zombie film extra. We noticed we had bug bites and one of us had a sore eye. We went to use the shower which the hot water was not working correctly and it was full of dirt, gristle and slime. The shower door did not cover the full range of the shower so it flooded the floor when you used it. Also we used the toilet and it flooded the whole bathroom from underneath.. We looked and it wasn't sealed. We tried using the brochure to find out how to get to Venice but there were no details and it was not clear how to access public transport or book the shuttle.

We then went to reception to enquire about the shuttle bus service and breakfast.

We then saw the lady who we were scowled at the night before. But she was behind the reception and worked there! She looked at me with a face of thunder  as I smiled and wished her a good morning. She just stared right at me and I felt she could have turned me into stone. She sighed and straight away told me I had to pay tourist tax, which I paid. She then answeredthe phone without apology right in front of me and kept looking her computer speaking in am irritated tone. She was very rude and clearly did not want to be there. She was the only one who spoke English and acted very aggressively.

We were told  (this was not on their website) that we had to give two days notice for breakfast and 24 hours notice to use the shuttle. However, the shuttle bus driver was off sick, so this service was cancelled for this week. When we asked for an alternative method to get into Venice, the new receptionist waved in the direction of the main entrance and gave the explanation "public transport" and would not give further explanation. When we looked it up, it said it would take 2 hours to get to Venice.

By this point we had enough. We packed our things and went to reception asking for a refund for our 4 remaining nights. She refused and started to become aggressive and kept ignoring us to answer the phone or talk to other customers. Her whole attitude stank. After about ten minutes she reluctantly offered is another room, but by this point we had been abused for long enough and really did not want to face another night of hell. We were both sleep deprived and shattered, so we declined this. She barked that we had to ring last-minute.com for a refund so couldn't give us one.

We ended up walking for an hour with our suitcases and checked into campsite jolly which was like heaven and half the price! It was clean, comfy beds, had a shuttle bus service, friendly staff and was not noisy. We stayed in a cabin which was much more comfy than hotel villa dori and gave been here for the rest of our stay. Sadly we contacted last minute and they advised the hotel were refusing to give us a refund and there was nothing they could do. I personally think they should change their name to hotel villa diablo as it was a living HELL. Would we stay here again? Certainly not! We hope last minute will refund us. We recommend anyone who thinks about booking here to avoid at all costs as it's actually a health risk.
