There are some nice shops in the vicinity- it's a huge square more or less in the center of the old town with many streets radiating off the square.

A Roman amphitheater, a MacDonalds in a quasi-Fascist-style building, a beautiful small church, and business offices flank this central are through which tourists and residents alike pass every day.

We had 5 days in Lecce and our B and B overlooked the Piazza Orono. Totally fascinating, both during the day and in the evenings. Always a buzz about the place, lots of nice bars and cafes, (and a MacDonalds - not quite so expected!) At the weekend, there were musicians, dancers, and other street entertainers. Bikers seem to rendezvous here - some amazing machines! And all with a Roman amphitheater as a backdrop.

This square was quite close to our hotel so we walked through it when we wanted to get almost anywhere. There are shops and restaurants, the ruins of an ancient Roman amphitheater, and a column erected in honor of St. Oronzo, the patron saint of Lecce. It is a busy place with people from all over the world there.

The first thing you think when you enter in this square is the sense of calm and slowness typical of Salento. A wide square surrounded by monuments of different epochs: baroque, early decades of the 20th century and, obviously, the Roman amphitheater. In the center of this square you can admire the she-wolf the Lecce's symbol.
Here you can find book stores, icre cream shps, churchs to visit and so on.
Sometimes, in the evening, it turns into an open-air theater for street performers.
