We had originally planned on staying two nights at the hotel for the weekend. But after being woken up by noisy guests and no hot water for our morning showers, we decided to switch hotels. The deciding factor, was the fact that when we tried to talk to the manager about our experience, she just shrugged her shoulders, so we moved to the Hotel Touring, where we had much better service and a nicer and quieter room.
Most of the reviews for the De Prati mention that it has a very convenient location and that is true. But to be honest, several of the top rated hotels in Ferrara are in the same area.

Our initial reaction to our room was that it seemed a ‘little old and tired’ particularly the bathroom. It was an internal room, with a window that faced a small courtyard. While we were unpacking we did notice that the sound insolation was not the best and we could hear noise from the lobby and other rooms. So we talked to the person at the desk and asked if there was another room available. We were told ‘No, but if our concerns was noise, the hotel had a policy of asking guests to be quiet from 9pm and 9am’. Also, that we could call the desk, if we were bothered by noise and that someone would take care of it.

When we returned from dinner, the hotel was quiet and we went to sleep just after 10pm. But we were woken up by two guests, talking loudly just after 11pm and since their room was next to ours, we also got to hear the music that they were playing loudly, as well as their talking. After about half of hour, I called reception and asked them to talk to these guests. The only response I got was ‘OK, OK, OK’. They finally were quiet about half past midnight. But we were woken up at 7am the next morning by the same guests and their music.

If that was not enough, while I was taking my shower, the water turned cold. After waiting 20 minutes, I was able to shave using lukewarm water and my wife had to take a cold shower.

At breakfast while we were talking about it, another guest, who was also not Italian, said that they had the same problem with the same guests, but for two nights. She also said that she had talked to the manager, who was no help. It was her belief that ‘regular guests, get a preferred treatment’ was the way she put it.
While breakfast was very nice, the other guest’s comments did surprise us. So after breakfast, we talked to the manager and mentioned the fact that the guests in the room next to ours had been noisy, both talking and with music both in the evening and early in the morning and that we did not had hot water for our morning showers. I asked her about the fact that we had been told that the hotel had a policy of asking guests to be considerate and quiet. Her only reaction was to shrug her shoulders and say nothing. We then asked if there was another room available for the following night. She said that there was, but that it would not be ready for a while.

We then asked when check out was and she said 11am. So we said that we were look for another hotel. Again, no reaction or show of any concern from the manager. So we walked across the square and were able to get a much nicer and quiet room at the Hotel Touring, for the same price.

While it was not our initial plan to move to another hotel, when we went to talk to the manager, but given her reaction and complete lack of interest in our comments or her showing any effort to help us, we decided not to waste more money and not get a good night's sleep and hot water.

This hotel is THE place to stay at when in Ferrara. Not only is it handy from the train station, but it is right in the centre of the historic centre of this gorgeous little city. The Castello Estense is just one street away, and all the sights are within easy walking distance.
Lovely little boutique hotel, refurbished beautifully from its 15th century origin while still retaining its antique nature. All modern conveniences, and an excellent breakfast provided. Fast and efficient Wifi.
But with all these fabulous features, for me the BEST part was the staff. They are welcoming, extremely helpful and obliging, and make the hotel feel like a home away from home! I recommend Hotel de Prati to anyone visiting Ferrara, and I myself will be staying here every time I visit. A big thank you to all the staff at this gorgeous little hotel!

I stayed at the Hotel De Prati for four nights. It is in a superb location in the city centre with access on foot to all the Ferrara culteral attractions. The hotel is quiet when considering its location. The substantial breakfast is excellent and caters for all tastes.
The owners are always accessible and provide local knowledge with regard to restaurants and other Ferrara attractions. An excellent choice in my opinion!

Room Tip: My room was on the second floor over looking the street - no problem!

Family run hotel super location across road from Castello Estense. Taxi was €9 from train station. Old building sympathetically updated and decorated with flair. Very nice helpful people on reception - good suggestions. Room well fitted out but a bit dark. Snores from next door managed to percolate wall but in general quiet. Nice breakfast - cold buffet in Italian style with good coffee freshly made on request . Airport bus/fly 200 yards away €15.
If staying a few days consider MyFe card €14 for 3 days - as well as free entries most museums/castle etc gets you no city tax for up to 2 nights (€8 per person saving) and €1.50 reduction on airport shuffle
Really enjoyed Cusina e Butega restaurant - see separate review

Great central location. Pleasant, well equiped rooms. Good breakfast. Above all, courtious help from Antonio at reception on where to park and which sites to visit. Wish we had been able to stay longer.
