Location, location! Terrazza Roberto has stunning views from the small terrace off the kitchen, and from the top bedroom. The cab organised by Vacation Sevice to meet us at the station, wasn't allowed into the town centre, so Sergio met us and helped us to the apartment.
The top bedroom is by far the best, but gets hot. The second bedroom also gets hot, but only has single beds and a chest of drawers. The sitting room only has a sofa bed, so there was inadequate seating for 4 people.
It has basic essentials for cooking, (pots, cutlery & crockery,) but be prepared to buy drinking water, washing up liquid, tea towels, soap, toilet paper etc. . There is a dishwasher, but insufficient cutlery and crockery to warrant it's use. the washing machine was a boon.
The town itself is charming, and most of the restaurants offer good food.
The only exception was Saraceno just up from Terrazzo Roberto, which we found very ordinary and overpriced. It is extremely touristy. The little beach near the jetty was very pleasant.
The staff at Vacation Service were very helpful in organising a day trip to the Aeloian Islands, which was a wonderful excursion. Lipari was interesting, and Vulcano is if you want to immerse yourself in the mud pool (I loved it), or climb up the volcano (too hot in June). Apart from that there is little to do than find a bar and keep cool. Don't miss climbing La Rocca in the morning, or take a us trip to Castelbuono.
So the rental agency was good and easy to deal with, and Terrazzo Roberto was fine as a base. The staff were always helpful, and very easy to talk to in English.
