“Jewel in the rough”
Reviewed 20 November 2012 for a stay in October 2012

I stayed in this villa with my husband, son (3 years old) and parents. It was perfect for a family holiday , there are rooms on the lower ground floor and on the first floor, with the living area/kitchen on the ground floor. The beds are comfortable and there is plenty of space for everyone. We ate outside any time we could, which included breakfast on most morning (we went end of October/November!) and the BBQ did come in handy. The tropical garden is lovely and you even get a view of the sea from there. Antonella's (owner) family uses the villa as their holiday home and one can tell because there is everything one needs from board games to mosquito bite remedies. We had a problem with the TV and they immediately replaced with a new flat screen TV. Antonella also prepare a very informative guide about the area with a list of recommended restaurants, our favourite became La Brace in Cefalu'.
The complex where the villa is located is nice but unfinished, real shame but not unusual in this part of Italy. There are two small bays within a couple of minutes walk but I would definitely recommend a car as there is not much else within walking distance. If are going for a drive to the southern coast take the Palermo-Sciacca road, it is a lovely scenic route that will show you a totally different side to Sicily.

The villa could not be situated in a better location, Mazzaforno is a haven for the(professional) families from Palermo and holiday makers from overseas. 5km from the beautiful Norman town of Cefalu with it's historic Duomo and the Temple of Diana.

During the day our children played with the Italian local families who encouraged their childen to practice their english. We were invited to so many dinners, on so many occasions we had to respectfully decline as we had wanted to explore the area.
The gardens of Villa Oleandro are well maintained and offer a welcome respite from the sun, The interior of the villa is well appointed and has plenty of chiil out places to relax. The villa is also air conditioned for those hot summer nights, offering respite from the heat.
The beach is beautiful, and the water crystal clear 5 minutes walk. In the evening the children could wander freeely with the other children the older children taking on the paternal role, some nights we had to go out and find them, only to find them playing happly. The villa development is securely gated and has security even though it isn't needed.

The swimming pool is well maintained and has diving boards, and their is a small children paddling area, plenty of umbrellas and loungers, you do have to wear a swimcap whilst using the pool.

Cefalu is magical and beautiful, I have sat in the main square under the shade of a palm and drank Crystal at £70 a bottle, the restaurants are numerous and fiercely compete with one and another, without bothering you as you walk along examining the fayres on offer.Loyalty in restaurants is rewarded we took 15 people for dinner 3 courses and wine £280 euros.

Cefalu has beautiful sandy beaches and lots of pedestrianised streets, parking is easy to find along the beach front Sicilian families dont tend to rise much before 11am.

Please if you read this don't tell anyone about Cefalu.
