Very average. Would not consider it to be a 5 star hotel.

We stayed in a deluxe pool view room, they are small and dark with no proper wardrobe and very little space. The toilet absolutely stunk of sewage, no water left by beds one single night out of our 4 night stay which I feel is poor for a 5 star hotel. Cheap towels and air con did not work and turned itself off every 10 minutes.

Breakfast is underwhelming, it’s a buffet with very little choice and a cooked egg service. It’s also poorly managed with long waits for cooked eggs and wrong orders being sent out. Waiters also seem impatient and flustered which isn’t exactly the relaxing morning you want.

Pool area is the one good thing about the hotel.

The reef club is very poorly executed, when we were there the decking had been removed due to weather or some sort of excuse , the restaurant was always covered in plastic sheets so seemed desolate and the reef bed area had all furniture and party equipment stacked up around it so you feel like you’re just in a dead end of the hotel.

The grounds are huge but poorly kept and you’re also amongst private properties which are also somewhat run down so it’s overall a little scruffy.

No shuttle to the town as advertised so you have the option of a 20 minute walk up a main road in a horrible area or a 10 euro taxi that takes 5 minutes at most.

I would never go back to this hotel, it’s pleasant but not good value at all. Feels more like a 3/4 star hotel to me compared to the amazing 5 stars I’ve stayed at around the world

Dear LouisaLam7,

Thank you for taking the time to review our Hotel; your words are extremely formative for us.

We apologize that our service did not satisfy your expectations. Please note that in both rooms you stayed the turndown service was regularly done and that twice a day (in the morning and in the evening) our Housekeeping staff left on the desk a bottle of water in the tray together with the glasses.

Moreover, concerning the Reef Club, just before your stay there was a bad storm that destroyed our wooden platform. It was unexpected and we tried to do our best to let our guests enjoy the seaside anyway in the following days. We are sorry to hear that this situation of emergency has compromised your opinion of our Hotel and we hope to welcome you once again so that you may fully enjoy all our services.

Best regards,
Staff of Le Calette Hotel

We visited early August. It was a fabulously relaxing holiday. Positives: grounds and restaurants, pool area and the bay for swimming directly below the terrace. The reception staff were extremely helpful, Davide the barman and his team were also super friendly. The rooms were excellent (we stayed in the area close to reception not in the gardens) and the cleaning staff did a great job. Only negative was breakfast which was slightly chaotic due to COVID-19. But this did not spoil the holiday at all. RECOMMENDED.

Just back from an 11 day stay at Le Calette N5 and we had a wonderful and very relaxing holiday.

The hotel setting is truly spectacular and we enjoyed the facilities of the extensive property, particularly the Reef Club, looked after extremely well by all the staff and especially Gaetano, Antonio, Deborah and Salvo.

We stayed in a double deluxe room, opening out directly onto the pool area with a beautiful view of the sea. The room, although smaller than expected, was very comfortable; lovely modern decor in boutique style, luxury Sicilian bathroom products and spotlessly clean. Not once did the housekeeping staff miss the turndown service and towels were replenished at least twice daily. Although clean, the towels could have been of better quality; this includes the beach towels.

We did have an unfortunate situation one day when one set of parents were taking their children to the toilet in the showers by the pool. We informed the management and they were very quick to sanitise the area thoroughly. Not the hotel’s fault or the children’s for that matter.

In an environment where safety is of primary importance, we did feel that the hotel had very effective COVID measures in place, however, the system currently in place for breakfast is not conducive to the hotel’s 5 stars. It would be much better to have an a la carte breakfast service from both safety and enjoyment perspectives.

The hotel arranged transfers for us between the hotel and Palermo Airport. Although we could not fault the quality of the drivers, the cars were all local Cefalu cabs. We would have been very happy to pay extra to have a luxury transfer and think that the hotel should look into offering this option.

Cefalu itself is a lovely town with excellent restaurants. Not much shopping but I did feel that we has a taste of the real Sicily. All our meals were super.

We would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel or recommending it to friends. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful holiday.

Absolutely loved Le Calette! We stayed at the property with our three children in the Le Calette suite. It was very spacious, lovely balcony, and the sofa bed was made up for the children in advance. A/C worked well and the room was sparkling clean. The staff is incredibly helpful and professional. They were even so kind to the children at the lobby and morning buffet. All staff that we encountered were able to communicate in English. Everything we needed was taken care of in an instant. The grounds could not be more gorgeous- one of the most stunning places I have been to! Ultimate in relaxation. Families beware- while there were other families there, and the hotel is so kind to its youngest guests, I could tell many of the older clientele did not want to be disturbed by children. We did our best to keep our kids' noise to an appropriate level at the pool but still, its a pool, and I want my kids to be able to jump in without getting the side eye. Again- absolutely not a complaint against the hotel or the staff, they were incredible- just more of heads up on the typical clientele. Also the pool is gorgeous. Great shallow area for young kids to play as well as deep end. There are even windows from the inside of the pool to the gym! Shuttle to the sandy beach was prompt and an easy ride through Cefalu. Beach was nice, sandy, shallow, semi private. Food is pricey which is to be expected, but was all delicious. Do wish they had pizza somewhere on the property. Service around the pool was lacking for a 5* property... recommend that the staff checks on pool guests more frequently to avoid having to walk into the beautiful lobby in a swimsuit. Breakfast outside overlooking the coast was spectacular! Honestly such a great start to the day. Delicious caffè. Dinner opens at 1930 which is typical for Italians, but my kids were hungry well before that. We ended up doing room service for dinner and the only option for room service was the luxe restaurant menu... close to €100 for some kids meals, plain pasta and a cheese plate was a tough reality. I will for sure be back but maybe leave the kids at home.

This is a gorgeous property. Great pool, stunning beach club and lunch restaurant but the service needs improving.
Breakfast is ok. Pastries are average, yoghurt fruit and fresh cooked eggs included. Currently the breakfast buffet isn’t self service due to covid policy so now you are waiting in line to be served by waitresses and waiters from the buffet table - so they therefore touch the plates and serve the food and pass to you. No logic to this at all since the same waiters and waitresses are then serving the full restaurant of people, moving high chairs, delivering coffees and clearling plates. I am not concerned at all of the spread of germs but these actions completely defeat the object of any safe guarding. I may as well collect the breakfast I want myself with only me touching my plate on that case and not have to get up or wait in line (often close to other guests). If you can’t have a buffet due to covid policy then just go a la carte. Totally pointless. Needs a rethink.
High chairs must be upgraded. Old high chairs not well strapped to chairs - I can’t relax because my one year old almost toppled the whole chair over a few times and straps don’t work. Ikea sell perfectly good looking functioning high chairs for €10. Just go and buy some of these please. Straps didn’t work or fit properly on the chair.
No bottled water in the room and the food and drink is 3 times the price of anywhere else in Cefalu. We do not mind paying 5 star prices for food or drink AT ALL but the service and quality has got to live up to it. A toastie for my daughter and a juice cost €12 for two cheap slices of bread with some ham inside and a bottled juice. It’s too much. Serve fresh bread with good quality meat and cheeses and fresh juice and I wouldn’t have a problem one bit. This is a shame. I also personally think when you are spending near €600 a night that children should eat free or at least the quality of food should be that of what you serve the adults if charging adults prices. Please decide one or the other.
Pool area is lovely with really close proximity to the rooms so babies can nap in the day time or you sit out and have a drink in the evening while they sleep which is a big bonus.
Service around the pool though is lacking day or night. I have had to get up and go into the bar to ask for drinks and take back empties on every occasion over 4 days. 5 star hotel should have friendly helpful attentive staff for poolside drinks and service not hang around at the door and no notice when you are trying to get their attention to place orders.
Breakfast & evening restaurant location is beautiful in a garden but the bathroom is a porter style out building and must be improved. Also the behind scenes areas (which are visible to guests when gates etc are open) are messy and need attention. It’s this type of detail for me which needs address to be truly world leading and 5 star.
Service at Reef Club also too slow with plenty of waitresses and waiters around but not switched on enough to take orders and clear away and we are not that picky or demanding it was just noticeable slow. Bread and oil bought over with no plates. Always have to ask for cutlery or more than once for items. Just not good enough for the price and status.
Also must provide bottled water in the room as standard. Currently only charged by mini bar or by order.
The view and sea are gorgeous. Exteriors are lovely but interiors a little dated. Beds and pillows are comfortable although the room (double deluxe) I was expecting to be much bigger. It’s actually just a pull out sofa bed taking up the living area and a small bedroom. Also no bath tub which is a shame. Generators at night make noise - we turned off electric at night using the fuse board and you can hear the odd train rumble by.
Sun loungers are comfortable and beds at Reef club too.
It’s nice but just not great for the money. And service needs improving.
We also used laundry service is was extortionate cost for baby items. My husband will freak so I will be talking to the team about this to reduce before he sees €98 for washing underwear, swim shorts and children’s knickers and bodysuits! A real shame.
We have had a lovely time but I just don’t think it’s worth the money. We are not particularly picky or demanding but it’s just lacking in a few too many areas for value of money I am afraid this time.

Dear Emily Moody,

Thank you very much for sharing your experience of your stay at Le Calette.

We appreciate that you have underlined how gorgeous our property is, especially the view, the pool area, the Reef Club and the lunch restaurant. Thank you for emphasizing the comfort to stay in rooms close to the swimming pool, perfect to relax for every member of a family.

We apologize that our service did not fully satisfy your expectations. Please take into consideration that due to Covid-19 we adopted new measures, as you mentioned we switched from a self-service buffet to a served buffet because one of our most important rules is that our guests get in contact only with their food and dishes, while our staff is asked - with continuous sanitation - to pay particular care and attention not to contaminate the food.

The child seats we use are produced by CAM, which is among the best brands for products for children in Italy. We are sorry to hear that you had difficult moments in using the seat for your child, if you had informed us, we would have intervened immediately, and in case of necessity, we would have changed it with another one.

Kindly note that in the room you stayed the turndown service was regularly done and that twice a day (in the morning and in the evening) our housekeeping staff left on the desk a bottle of water in the tray together with the glasses. Those times that you explicitly refused the turndown service, it was not possible for us to offer you a new bottle of water.

Thank you again for your review, we will follow with care your important and kind suggestions to keep improving our offer. We hope to welcome you once again so that you may fully enjoy all our services.

Sending you our kindest regards, we remind you that from now on you will enjoy all benefits reserved to our repeat customers.
