How do people survive and thrive in intense heat with a challenging landscape? This beautiful museum shows you how the Omani people solved these problems.

Outside there is a traditional house, clear running water, a model Omani village. Inside the museum all is modern, cool and tranquil with excellent examples of Omani textiles and clothing, daggers and swords, coffee pots, coins, furniture and more.

Familiarise yourself with essential Omani imagery and history.

You can buy coffee and soft drinks here and there are plenty of taxis to take you to your next stop.

I lived a large part of my life in the ME, starting in the 60's and so this was an interesting trip back into the past for me. Many of the items on display are here in UK in my house.

One of the things you find out about Oman is that they don't have a huge amount to show you. This was a lovely little museum with an extensive collection of jewellery, costumes and other artifacts. Can be crowded. Large gift shop.

My family visited this at the recommendation of another friend and we agree - it’s a great stop. The main museum has small divisions so one can go digest one topic, such as women’s clothing or homes at a time and you don’t get lost. The outdoor example of a traditional Omani House was interesting, as was the inside of the coffee shop where old world light switches reveal the age of the building. My kids (14 and 9) loves the weapons collection and my husband the maps.
