We returned with family and friends for an excellent lunch. Scotch eggs sold out again they are so popular. We were so well looked after and delighted in tasting the local beers and homemade food. We loved the individual touches with local sauces, brilliant proper home made pies and yummy pates.
It really is a unique atmosphere and we are always made to feel so welcome. Walks abound from the door, but this visit was designed to eat, drink and be happy. We were thank you!

Fantastic home cooked food and yes it really is fresh and home cooked and the spinach and ricotta lasagne came not only with a salad but lots of different fresh veg from swede to red cabbage to broccoli and cauliflower. But what really impressed me was the welcome we got and the oh so friendly service. Lots of really good ales on offer too. Will definitely be back, this must be the Chalke Valley's best kept secret, oh and wonderful atmosphere too.

I went, with my husband, his mother, brother and his wife, for Sunday lunch at the Horseshoe. We all agree that it was the very best Sunday pub lunch we had ever had. Good meat, a fine selection of fresh vegetables, including the crispest roast potatoes. To top it off a sublime sticky toffee pudding, made in-house. If you add in a wonderful local cider and really pleasant attentive staff it was a fantastic visit. Many thanks to Tony Bath and his excellent team, 100%!!

Never been here before but chose to meet far flung family for a walk on the nearby hills then have lunch at the Horseshoe afterwards. After a wet and windy December walk (through the lovely village and onto the escarpment where I imagine the views in summer are fantastic), we were given a very warm welcome and our own room at the back of the bar. The friendly staff worked together to fetch us drinks and take our food orders. We had worked up an appetite with our exertions but the food was both generous and delicious - and we didn't have long to wait. The venison and apricot pie was huge, meaty and tasty, while those who ordered roast beed sunday lunch found their plates filled with beef and heaps of vegetables on the side to be piled on top. the roast potatoes were excellent. Some of the party were able to manage pudding (which was also great apparently - sticky toffee pudding with a choice of cream custard or ice cream) but I was defeated. We will definitely be back again.
