Had a drink in the lovely little bar here. The people were very friendly and the buildings and outside area oozed character. The best. It was being able to swim in the Serchio. Ask the staff before you do so, as the banks of the river are private property here.

Excellent food and friendly service, so good we visited 3 times. Chef pops out of kitchen to ensure customers are happy and have a chat with them. He delivered 2 free Desserts to us which was a nice touch. Highly recommended and not to be missed.

We have been visiting this area of the Garfagana for a number of years and have found a good range of places to eat out that we return to regularly but this restaurant will certainly be being added for future visits after our recent experience there.
We decided to try a tasting menu for our lunch rather than a la carte, opting to share the 3 courses plus dolce (dessert) version rather than the 4 or 5 course versions. The appetiser included a Parmesan wafer and a beautifully light cheese soufflé to die for - I could have just happily eaten a plateful of those but then I would have missed out on the other treats to come. The primo course was homemade pasta with tomato sauce and flakes of cooked trout caught in the river that we were overlooking from the outdoor terrace. Secondo was chicken cooked in local Petragnola beer (which my husband tells me is also excellent for drinking!) served with roasted potatoes. All of this was excellent but then came the piece de resistance - a fabulous lemon flavoured Creme brûlée. As I mentioned, we were sharing the menu and nearly came to blows over whether one person was trying to take more than their fair share of this!
Even having just the one menu shared by 2 we still had enough food to fill us and at €22 it was a bargain. As a tasting menu you are subject to the chef's choices but on the basis of our experience you are in safe hands no matter what he chooses. As others have mentioned he comes out of the kitchen to talk to the customers which is a nice touch.
The homemade bread is also worthy of a mention and as with all of the restaurants we have visited in this area the house red wine is tasty. The restaurant itself is in a lovely peaceful rural setting overlooking a river on the outskirts of a village and the staff who speak English are friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed out visit so much in fact that we returned the next day for the festa de mama lunch! We would definitely recommend eating here although in doing so hope that it doesn't become so popular that we can't get a table in the future as it is already busy with locals which in Italy is always a good sign. Indeed if you want to visit at the weekend over the summer months then the staff advise making a reservation.

Good food locations aren't too difficult to come across in this part of the world but this restaurant takes some beating. The setting is breathtaking in a valley beneath the pretty village of San Ramano (you hear the river bubbling along beneath you).

The service is attentive, prompt and friendly.

The food is refined but not fussy. The produce still shines. We went for the four course tasting menu - rabbit/ chicory and mozzarella tortellini / roasted chicken/ bavarese desert.

The meal was perfectly balanced and leaves you satisfied without being bloated.

We're in the region for a week and will be completing our stay with a further fix!

We have been here many times over the years and always enjoyed the beautiful setting and good simple food. This visit was a nice surprise as the food is excellent- better than before. Still simple but now more sophisticated. Delicious homemade bread. Our only disappointment is that we used to be able to swim in the pool, but now that is only possible for guests who stay here.
