We booked a ten day stay here on the recommendation of my travel agent. We are not particularly sporty or active and were a bit concerned it might be too busy a resort for our taste.
Nothing could be further from the truth. This was an incredibly relaxing vacation.
The resort is smaller than other all inclusives we have tried. It’s fairly quiet - music at one of the pools for aqua fit twice daily but the other two pools are quiet, especially Cariblue.
The spa treatments are excellent. I tried three different massages, two facials and a scrub. I went to four fitness classes, despite not being a sporty type, and discovered I like spin fit. The instructors are all top notch.
The main restaurant changes its dinner menu every eight days. They strive to be inventive and usually succeed. The two specialty restaurants -Tao and Windows - are worth visiting.
Breakfast is a fairly standard buffet with custom omelettes and house baked bread. I became addicted to the oat bread and am in withdrawal now that I’m home. Lunch is buffet style. They do Indian and Mexican theme days but you can always get fresh veggies and meat without resorting to the theme dishes.
The clubhouse food was good and a little lighter. Bar service was generally very prompt and always cheerful. The piano bar was a welcome oasis from the heat. Great staff there too.
The bars lacked a selection of single malt scotch but try the local rum. It was a revelation. The wine stewards are proud to showcase it on request. The house wines are better than average. Their upgraded wine list is excellent.
The beach is not terribly big but did not feel crowded. Good service there too. Staff will set up your umbrella and bring drinks as well as fruit snacks in the morning. You can snorkel just offshore and the water sports looked like fun. Went on a snorkel trip with the scuba team and found them very professional (no beer before snorkelling or diving) and helpful.
We had a luxury ocean front room (164). It was on the small side with nowhere to put a suitcase except on the chair. The bathroom was tired and we had a drip from the air con unit which took several tries to fix. We asked to be moved but they were fully booked. I think they could have shown a bit more urgency concerning getting the fix done properly given the lack of a place to move us.
This resort was much better in the staff to guest ratio than any other I’ve stayed at. You don’t have to tip to get the attention of the bar staff, which is a huge plus. The staff were nearly all fantastic. Very few (maybe four out of a hundred) had blah attitudes.
Big upside of a wellness resort: no roving bands of drunken idiot guests! The crowd here is fairly mature and while some of the younger ones partied hard and staff were constantly refilling wine glasses, we never saw or heard any drunken antics.
Would we go back? Probably to likely, despite the long flight. As I noted, our room was a little tired but I’d be open to trying a different room category to get something fresher. The combo of fitness, spa wellness and tropical breezes is hard to beat.
