We had a lovely time. All staff were so friendly and even lent us a book of local walks. Food was great, we had breakfast and dinner. Good standard of accommodation, clean and comfy. Would definitely stay again.

First of all the location makes this pub a 'must' visit place to go, as the area is of outstanding beauty and the view from the pub itself is exceptional.

As a result of it's location and view (as well as the quality of the food), it is a very popular place to eat and/or drink but we were lucky to have picked a 'relatively' quiet period to eat there.

I wouldn't say the initial welcome was overly welcoming but at least, we were immediately acknowledged as being there (which often isn't the case elsewhere) and from then on the waitresses were very pleasant.

Due to a shortage of staff (that we overheard mentioned by the staff) and it being a very busy day, all the specials were off the menu, so there wasn't a great deal to choose from (but a better solution than we experienced, at another pub in the same situation recently, who just served up a wide range of terrible food), which was initially very disappointing. However, that lead us to choose a Sunday roast (with pork), which proved to be one of the best we've eaten.

The pork was perfect, the cracking was the best we'd ever eaten, the veg was good enough, the Yorkshire pudding was reasonable and although the roast potatoes were enjoyable to eat, they were badly burned, which took the edge off them a little but the apple sauce made up for that.

I then chose their 'special' crumble, which was a combination of apple, rhubarb, orange and ginger, that proved to have a unique and enjoyable flavour.

We'll definitely be going again.

Despite the roaring fire there was no welcome here. Surly female on the phone, didn't look up until her call was finished, then asked us "do you want a drink ?" we replied that we would please, and also some food. The response was, the kitchen is closed, we arent open all day ( 2.30 pm) but you can have a drink if you want one.

Nothing more to say

Busy pub serving great value food and the quality was ok too. Staff on fire serving everyone, loads of locals and what does that say? Only one traditional hand pulled beer but it was lovely. Could not resist the Rhubarb Crumble and Custard for pudding.
