The hotel is nicely located on the sea shore, in front of the motu (small islands) and has a small beach. The restaurant is quite good, not so cheap as all the restaurants on the island, the food is good and local. Service in the restaurant is quite nice. The lesser points wich make the experience not so paradise like as wished : the concrete blocks to reach the beach are not sexy, and when the restaurant is closed you actually need to walk through the sea to get back to the hotel... The bungalows deserve to be renewed : the bathroom space and the furnniture seems to date of the eighties. Even if clean, it is dated. No air conditioning in the bungalows, we can live without, but we'd expect that standard to be reached given the price of the rooms. Could do better !

We enjoyed our stay at the Hibiscus. It is a comparatively small hotel (~30 bungalows and a few studios in a modern building) in an excellent location. The hotel is right on the beach, with the bungalows extending back through lovely grounds, and the swimming pool, to the reception area which is on the main road. Access to the beach is down some steps to a shallow protected area, and off to the right is a newly opened public beach. This white sandy beach leads to a part of the lagoon that has some, but not a lot of coral, so it’s easy to walk out and swim. The area to the left has more coral for interesting snorkeling. Of the several hotels in the area, the Hibiscus is the closest to stores and restaurants, including Le Petit Village. The Sunset Restaurant at the hotel is right over the water, and definitely the place to see a sunset. Breakfast was included with our room, and it was a lovely place to start the day.
The staff were all very nice and accommodating. On the day we left, our transfer to the ferry wasn’t until 3:15, and since checkout was at 10:30, the receptionist arranged for us to stay in one of the other bungalows for the day, which we really appreciated. We had been staying in a superior lagoon view bungalow,(#1) and it was right at the end of the grassy area overlooking the restaurant and the lagoon. We spent part of our last day in #14, which was a garden bungalow. It was similar in layout to the superior bungalow, but did not have the more upscale furnishings, TV, AC and in-room safe.
We would stay at the Hibiscus again.

My husband and I stayed at the Hibiscus in early November and if you want a lovely friendly welcome with very helpful staff and a 5 star location with simple but comfortable accommodation, then this is your pick! Our French is limited but we had so much help from Gaelle at the front desk who assisted us with our tour (Moorea Explorer - another story - avoid them at all costs). Gaelle spoke to them and clarified timings and ensured our requirements were communicated to the tour driver. Not that this helped the problems we encountered with the tour but that was not Gaelle's responsibility. She could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The restaurant has a prime location and the beach out the front is to die for. One of the best beaches in French Polynesia. The bures are a good distance apart giving you the feeling of privacy. However if you prefer to go to one of the fancy hotels with all the mod cons and crowds of visitors and staff who don't really care about service then don't stay at the Hibiscus.

Room tip: Choose a bure facing the ocean.
