Overall, we absolutely loved it. The perfect honeymoon experience - a good mix of relaxation and exploring an island paradise!

Yes, things are expensive, and it can take longer to get there than you'd like - but that's Moorea. It's a small price to pay to visit paradise.

Pros:
- Stunning views from the overwater bungalows
- lovely, spacious, rooms with modern fittings
- good facilities in terms of having water equipment available for use, included in the rate
- helpful service
- the location meant superb sunsets!

Cons:
- It's not near a town per se, which isn't a problem unless you want to find a shop or easily get to a local restaurant (although these will generally pick you up from the hotel)
- If you're having lunch from their onsite restaurant, you're a bit limited for smaller/ lighter options.

Some advice: Get an overwater bungalow, and perhaps bring some snack food to make it easier to plan your lunches. And perhaps most importantly, book any activities as early as possible, as many will book out quickly.

Room Tip: Bungalows facing west, to enjoy the sunset and mountains! (eg. 93, 95...)

We stayed at the Hilton Moorea for 4 nights in a King Deluxe Garden Pool Bungalow. The room was very nice, clean and spacious. The pool is a great option if you want to enjoy lounging in the privacy of your room. We noticed some of the garden pool bungalow rooms don’t offer as much privacy as coverage into the deck as ours did (Room 31).

If you plan to eat outside of the Hilton on some nights, I recommend you make reservations in advance at restaurants that offer complimentary pick up and drop off at the hotel. Taxi rides end up being very expensive for short distances. Another option is asking concierge if any other guests are taking a taxi to the same restaurant and are interested in sharing the cost of the ride. We never took this option but it was nice of concierge to offer that as an idea.

We brought leftovers back from one of the nearby restaurants we ate at for dinner. The following day we asked front desk if there was a microwave we could use to warm up our food and were reprimanded and told that we are not supposed to warm up food unless it was purchased inside the hotel. They eventually agreed to warm it up for us and said someone from room service would be stopping by our bungalow to pick up the food and warm it up for us. Room service came by about 15 minutes later and once again reprimanded us for our request and told us they would be back in about 30-40 minutes with our food. I don’t understand why something so simple was such a big deal and it was incredibly uncomfortable to deal with.

We gathered that French Polynesia isn’t somewhere you go for the great food but instead for the beautiful sights, relaxing and the escape… everywhere we ate food was just ok and nothing amazing or memorable tastewise.
The breakfast buffet was the only thing I really looked forward to every morning.

We enjoyed the Polynesian show & bbq buffet on Monday night. On Monday nights the show is held by the pool and not the restaurant so it provides a nice change of scenery.

Overall the service does not match up to the property and price. Concierge was the only staff that exceeded our expectations and were very helpful with every question and request.

We received excellent service from every staff member. The bungalow was very nice although not over the top. We took fish food and fed thousands of colorful fish off our back deck each morning. The snorkeling is the best in the world. That is no exaggeration, I have snorkeled all over the world and the lagoon around the resort is just phenomenal. The beach area is somewhat small but very nice with beach chairs and hammocks everywhere. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is the quality of the food served at the restaurants. The food is not bad but nothing that stands out either.

Good, but not good enough

We stayed at the Hilton Moorea for 4 nights in a villa.
Let's start with the positives.
The rooms are really pleasant and meet expectations, spacious, with a private plunge pool and a private outdoor space with sun beds and everything you need to chill out in the privacy of your room. Rooms are clean and tidy. So far, so good.
The premises are generally well looked after, the beach is pleasant, there is enough space for all guests and we never felt like we had to rush for a sun bed or a seat for breakfast.
Location is also amazing, superb sunset. So far, so good. We are in a 5* .

Now, the caveat : the service.
Arrival is cold as ice, we queue at front desk more like in a hostel, and not what we expected for a honeymoon in a five start resort. Then we were sent off to the pool or beach until we have a room. No mention about where to get changed, or shower, or a light snack. The light breakfast is actually available for people checking in on early morning but we only figured that out the next day when we stumbled upon it on our way to our breakfast. No one ever mentioned this to us at any point.

Front desk generally rude and unhelpful, unlike concierge who really are very helpful.

We waited a long time for our room, although we arrived early so fair enough. But we were told "someone will come and look for you", which of course never happened and we had to go at multiple occasions to the front desk.

We both have Hilton Gold, status, but regardless no Gold benefits were honoured as we did not book directly on their website. We didn't expect room upgrade but had thought that as we were on honeymoon they would at least provide high speed internet or early check in. But no, it was declined firmly and no negotiation was in order. Yellow card !

When you charge that much and you need to behave like in a 5* and make some small efforts. Internet allowance costs nothing and that is all we asked, since the TV is 90% in French and there is no movies on demand in the room. There is a DVD player but nothing was ever mentioned to us as to how to get one.
The lack of 5* service goes on...
Toilet flush broken, had to call 4 times to get it fixed. When finally "fixed", it would not even flush anymore. Had to call them again. Pfff.
No cotton pad in the bathroom? Well, no worries, they rushed to prepare the room surely. Not at all! The cotton pads are available on request only and you have to request them every day if you want more ! Surely not acceptable for a 5*. This is CHEAP guys! RED CARD.
Food is not it the standard, have seen better breakfast buffet in 3*. Not great range, hard bread and on several mornings having to wait for food to be replenished. The view tends to make you forget the rather average quality of the food.
Same applies to the lunch:
When you order the club sandwich, you can have fries or salad. Asked for a 50/50, a straight no, one would have to be on top at extra charge! Just ridiculous ...
DOUBLE Red card !
Guys, you have a great site but you can't simply rely on it to justify the charge.
So shake it a bit and provide a service at the level of the expectations for a 5*.
And at the front desk, talk with respect to people and listen to them instead of seeing them off with a "No" before they even ask a question.

One part of our honeymoon was a 6 night stay on Moorea. We loved it! We experienced the staff as very friendly and happy. We did not know in advance that tipping is not that common, you don't feel urged to tip at all. Of course you can always tip if you've had a great meal or the room was prepared very nicely. The guests of the resort are mainly from the U.S., some from France and we have also seen several couples from Japan. We booked the full day lagoon tour through the activity desk, which was amazing. They provide one small bottle of water per person every day, but if you want to buy snacks, I suggest you buy it at the hotel store. We walked 20min (one way) to the store next to the hotel, but looking back the money we saved wasn't worth the trip in the heat, carrying 5 liters of water. Maybe if you plan on getting alcohol it makes more sense.
After reading the reviews we brought beach shoes with us, but we did not use them. When we went snorkeling we had fins on, so if you plan on snorkeling, then you don't need special shoes. The crepe bar was our favorite place to eat, delicious. We stayed in a panoramic overwater bungalow, which was perfect and definitely worth the money. Don't forget to put the privacy sign on the door, housekeeping comes around early.
