A well kept boardwalk in a beautiful swamp scenery. Walk starts close to parking and makes a loop. This should definitely be on your itinerary. Take your swimmers with you!
Stunning trail with very diverse things to see. Not often you can visit and explore bogs in that way and just walk through. Definitely recommend stopping by when in the area.
Definitely worth a stop - Must see with a walkway over the bog along with an observation tower. Along the way you will be educated on how a peat bog forms and the consequences of draining and mining the peat. Can take an hour or two depending on whether you go beyond the tower and do the full walking loop. An area for swimming if you are game for it.
I did several trails in the beautiful Lahemaa National Park and the viru bog walk was my favourite.
A well maintained boardwalk leads you through the bog. In the middle is a viewing tower with stunning views. And half of the boardwalk, including the tower is accessible by wheelchair or pushchair.
The trail through the Viru Bog is very educational and makes for a good half-day trip from Tallinn. Everything is very well signposted, including instructive panels in Estonian and English with child-friendly content. There is a viewing tower in the bog which provides a good overview of the area and the impressive scenery. The only downside, however, is that the wooden planks through the swamp are quite narrow which is an issue when there is a lot of people (as at the time of our visit) due to two-way walking.
