food was great very enjoyable but when I went to spend a penny the toilet was filthy, a distinct aroma, cobwebs all over, layers of dust, the toilet pan, the seat cover was on the floor along with paper along with the cobwebs and dust! Makes you wonder what the kitchens are like!!

On arrival we had a quick booking in we had room 5 .As we went into are room we were very disappointed of size of the room. The bath room was very shabby and in need of an update the lino bid not go to the edge of bath and walls. And need of a good clean and the toilet system was fix to the wall with a peace of skirting. The bed room was very small and the carpet was threadbare in places and also in need of a good clean through out.WE were very disappointed and tried to book a room at another hotel but all fully booked. So tried to change for a better room but unable to.We were there for four days and did not see a cleaner once.We opened the window to are the room but got a strong drainage smell. The dinning room was just as bad with damp walls and dirty chairs and curtains hanging down and smelling very unpleasant. But got to say the lady that served breakfast was very pleasant and the breakfast was all ways good. Not good value and would not recommend this hotel

We stayed here for one night on a tour of Wales, booked via Booking.com.

Our room was on the very top floor of the hotel, quite a lot of steps up although quiet and peaceful on this floor. Room was a bit dated however it was clean, comfortable and spacious. Bed was comfy and we enjoyed a good nights sleep.

We had an excellent meal our night of arrival. Food was very nicely prepared and was filling and reasonably priced for three courses, good choice on the menu. Staff were hard working and attentive.

We enjoyed our stay here. Best check your bill on departure - we found we had someone else's drinks added to ours!

Room tip: Rooms on the top floor are very peaceful as away from the bar area which can get busy

whilst the place is in need of some reparation, this actually added to the charm of the place for us. Stunning stairway. The staff were wonderful and the owner (manager?) David was extremely hospitable. He made us wonderful cocktails to start. We dine out at good restaurants regularly and waited for our food wondering what the quality would be like. When the food came out we were blown away. The food is definitely made with love and all six of us polished up our plates. 5 out of 5 for food and we would definitely go there again to eat. It was my 50th birthday and they all made me feel very special. Thanks to the staff, the chef and David!

There is no doubting that in its days this hotel would have been stunning; unfortunately it is now requiring significant repair and modernisation. On arrival we had to ask for our room to be cleaned as it was filthy, damp and covered in dust. Even after cleaning was completed we continued to find remnants from previous guests and a general lack of cleanliness. The facilities in the room were not as advertised; jacuzzi bath - did not work, Nintendo Wii - we only found a rubber projective controller, TV with satellite channels - there was no TV channels available as no signal was being received. The general state of the room was very poor - TV wall brackets hanging off, plug sockets dangerously fixed, taps in the sink not fixed and spinning around, single glass widows damp and allowing road noise, noticeable dampness on the walls, bath and shower facilities completely unusable (over bath shower replaced during our stay after we reported it not working however was still not working when we left - we had to use another room to shower during our stay which wasn't much better tbh), carpets dirty and fraying, towels in poor condition, furniture very old and poor quality etc etc........I could go on.
A couple of positives - the staff are clearly trying very hard to keep guests happy and the Wi-Fi throughout the hotel worked fine (we even managed Netflix's in our room however this was the on tv we could watch).
It is such a same that this beautiful building has now fallen into disrepair; it could be and amazing holiday destination. Finally - please don't be fooled by the pictures of the rooms on the website, the devil is in the detail and oh boy is the detail bad!!

Room tip: Windows are single glass and can therefore be noisy at night.
