Our reservation was lost; The Guesthouse tried to charge three time the price they quoted when we reserved - I was able to negotiate them down to double the price, as I had to stay there (no other option); The room was basic at best and so dark that the lights needed to on all the time despite of it being the longest day of the year; Prepayment was demanded and then it was a problem to get an invoice or a receipt before we left; Staff only spoke Estonian.

Located a few mins west along a narrow side road off route 161 a few km south of Võru, this excellent guesthouse facility can only be reached by car. It consists of a pub/restaurant (Hämsaare kõrts) where a splendid breakfast is served and where you can eat a hearty evening meal (as long as you've finished by 20:00 hrs!). The pork chops and salad with sauté potatoes were first rate. The whole guesthouse complex looks a bit like a reconstructed Viking village consisting of unpainted timber buildings in a large clearing with well-kept lawns and large lime trees dotted about the place. Sleeping rooms are in what looks like a Saxon long house (also unpainted) situated c. 100 m from the pub/restaurant. The rooms are modern and comfortable. The location is rustic, sylvan, slightly undulating and salutarily calm. Service is good, personal but not pushy. It's a great base for exploring the attractive southeast corner of Estonia. The town of Võru is only 10 mins away bar car, and the top of the Suur Munamägi tower, with its splendid views into Russia and Latvia, can be reached in less than 30 mins. Great value for money and a very pleasant experience altogether.Highly recommended.

Real country style place with well made old fashioned food. Especially breakfast is worth paying the extra. Remote distant make this place possible to access only with the car or caravan, but it's worth visiting on the round trip to the southern part of Estonia.
