Centered along the promenade a real Victorian hotel, comfortable and we'll positioned near Douglas town centre. A room overlooking the sea, is a much better option. As the rooms are a little larger than the rest. This hotel would have gotten five stars but for the steps along the corridors to the rooms. Where we were positioned was on the first floor, which unfortunately suffered a loss of heating in the room, however the manager did provide a portable electric heater till the heating was sorted. We had the odd times when when the flush continued on and on for an hour. Breakfast is a full buffet affair with bacon, eggs, sausages, black pudding, hash browns and beens, with serials toast and a small selection of croissants or pan au chocolate. There was also toast available, fresh coffee and tea and small selection of fruit and fruit juices.
The bar does have a piano player for a short time most evenings, but is not overpowering. You can get a bar snack. Go for the Empress club sandwich, it was very tasty. There is a vegetarian option.
The bistro restaurant offers a small but nice menu, with a vegetarian option. The preparation and presentation was pretty good.
You can book a massage. There is also a sauna. No swimming pool.
You have a flight of steps to the bar/restaurant and reception, and along the floor levels are a few steps.

Room Tip: Book a sea view room, as these are larger than the standard rooms, you do have to negotiate steps up to and throughout the hotel.

I arrived in the dark and knew hotel was on seafront but couldn't find it because the lit name sign is right at the top of the building and not easily visible when driving. I had to park up to find it. Bar and reception areas looks opulent and there it ends. Rooms are dated however, they were warm and clean. I ate in the bar and staff were pleasant and helpful. Food was reasonably priced for the island.

We booked the Valentine's package which was all inclusive of dinner, overnight stay and full English breakfast. The deal was very good value and the hotel was quiet but very acceptable to us. We were able to relax in the conservatory and the bar later on. All in all the staff were very friendly - but we have used the Hotel restaurant before. The food was very good as was the service. The TV signal reception in our room was poor but we were told that this was due to be upgraded.

Room Tip: For quietness - the rear. Sea view rooms overlook the promenade but also the traffic
