The IOM was on my bucket list of countries and had absolutely no plan or idea when I arrived. The Empress, like other hotels on the Promenade, is older--but don't think that it is subpar. I'm a world traveler and I often book budget hotels and hostels. This was great. The staff were wonderful. There are two bus stations on either side of the hotel (#5 & #6) that make travel to the airport, Laxey, Ramsey, Castletown, Peel, and Port Erin very convenient. The view across the sea is beautiful and morning sunrises are stunning. The room was a single-bed with en suite bathroom. There are not many in-room amenities, but the WiFi worked well, and the room was spacious.
The hotel provides a breakfast downstairs (Fruit, cereals, eggs, bacon, sausage, juices, coffee, and other food items.) Each morning I could eat a hardy breakfast and skip lunch. The hotel pub and restaurant are great. Dinner was divine. I had (a form of) Chicken Cordon Bleu for dinner and a Cheese Board with fruits as an appetizer. Stay here, grab a delicious breakfast, take the bus North or South (or wander around Douglas). Return by 8pm and enjoy dinner with wine. Perfect!More
