Our second stay at The Hambrough - this year with no restaurant but still a very good cooked breakfast. There's plenty of choice of places to eat out in Ventnor so B&B is a good basis for this hotel.

We received a warm welcome, informal, friendly and helpful service and a spotlessly clean and spacious room with a big balcony and view across the sea. Rooms one and two both have these large balconies and views, with a comfy sofa if you want to sit inside and look out through the French windows in cooler weather. Nice touches included a plate of homemade shortbread always on reception, good quality toiletries and a Nespresso machine in the room. We rebooked for next year - there's nowhere else we know of on Ventnor sea front that can offer this wonderful elevated location and balcony view.

Room Tip: Room one and two on the first floor at the front have balconies and great views

We returned to the Hambrough for two nights recently, staying in Room 1, as we did at the same time last year. We had asked for a room with a balcony and sea views. The room, the balcony and the views were absolutely gorgeous. The bathroom was lovely, toiletries great, staff delightful. Breakfast delicious and varied - smoothies, pastries, banana bread, full English etc. I love the plate of home-made shortbread at reception - too tempting! Both times we have visited we have had no problem parking on the road outside the hotel. We really couldn't have asked for more from our stay and we highly recommend the Hambrough.

Staff were cheerful,friendly and helpful.
Parking was a problem. The breakfasts were great . Our room was comfortable even though it was on the top floor and there was not a lift. The toiletries were of a high quality.

Food was beautiful! They brought out a selection of sandwiches which were delicious served with a big pot of tea, then we had the sweet treats the scones were warm which was a lovely touch shows they were fresh out of the oven, the sponges were light and airy, the brownie was gooey and the Eton mess was gorgeous. We highly recommend you try it even if it’s just the once. Staff were very friendly and attentive they took the time to make sure every thing was alright.

Stayed one night at the end of August. This is an excellent boutique hotel - airy, clean and spacious room (#5) with beautiful views to the sea in front and to St Boniface Down behind. The bed was very comfortable with high quality bed linen. The staff were helpful and unobtrusive. Although there is a restaurant it is purely for breakfast - this is made perfectly clear on their website. There is also a small bar to have a drink before heading out in the evening. Breakfast was first class - beautifully cooked and well presented. We were sorry to leave after only one night.

I cannot imagine what lies behind any of the small number of less glowing reviews - but judging by some of the moans, some seem to be rather nit-picking, at best.

I would highly recommend the Hambrough to anyone wanting a comfortable stay in a high quality, unpretentious hotel - and have already done so to friends.

Thanks for a great stay.
