I usually find the good points in a hotel as we travel quite a lot but il start with the good point for here. Arrived building and view lovely went in decor looked new and clean. Receptionist she was very nice chatting and shown to room , this is were it changed room was very old tired there was marks all over floor and walls one bit actually looked like bloody finger prints carpets dirty mixed furniture and felt dark as the one window you couldn’t see out of for condensation and it badly needed repaired cobwebs round light the room in general should not be getting used at all the bathroom very old window had been boarded up so very dark the floor was moving and you could feel there was holes under the floor had to wear shoes going in as it would catch on the spaces on floor with movement it looked dirty and old could hardly get into bathroom as a radiator stoped it opening fully. Again the cleaning of it wasn’t up to much cobwebs across bathroom bath jets were dirty . If I was owner I would be sacking the cleaners as you could tell no pride in their job teabags from last guest in the bin cups were dirty glasses still had someone lipstick on it dusting was a joke as the lamps were not only dusty but should have been removed as shades were very dirty and floor had been hoovered just as you walk in but wen you moved the chair to sit on it also had bits of crumbs still there, we went down to get a wee drink before dinner and we then asked for menu to be told it’s shut, there was no mention of this on the website or when we arrived ( we like to have dinner in hotel ) we had to then drag our child out in the snow to find something to eat . The receptionist never even recommended anywhere just said sorry dinning room closed and got on with what he was doing but we found a lovely Indian restaurant,I always give good reviews as I feel it’s important to hear the good things but this hotel has a lot to improve first the hotel itself then the staff need to go on a hospitality course they are nice staff but just don’t seem to know what to say and do didn’t know what drinks they had kept having to apologise and go and find out we were not giving any information regards no food check out time breakfast and were it was WiFi password etc and no info in room and there wasn’t even a list of numbers for contacting reception so felt we were constantly asking ( hotels we have been to usually overload with info ) the staff never asked us how our stay was. At breakfast one couple were asked to take the plates , cups from other table after there’s was wiped the juice had run out there didn’t seem to be anyone keeping an eye on it .even at check out no conversation just took key and said that’s you I felt they were scared in case you gave the truth . It’s sadden to write this as hotel grounds and reception area is lovely but they should never have been allowing that room number six to be given out to families needs lots of improvement to become a decent hotel and staff although really nice and good attitude I have no issue with them as they had a good attitude they just need to know-what should be getting told to visitors on arrival etc

We spent one night at the hotel unexpectedly. While the frontage of the building looks impressive, the inside decor is tired and needs major upgrading. Two saving graces; the sea view and the helpful staff. It almost felt like the staff were trying to compensate for the surroundings.

Our stay at Faulty Towers was a gift, we got the hot tub room with brownies and breakfast. On arrival the bar area was dirty and reception was a little underwhelming. We were shown to our room and how to work the tub, was told the chef had an accident so we could not book dinner, but that they could book us into the Rocks. The room was ok, missing some detail, could have done with some TLC. Bathroom was lovely. View is amazing.

When we had dinner at The Rocks we were told this regularly happens, they get a lot of business from Bayswell!

When we went back we tried out the hot tub, the jets were not working properly. As this is a main feature of the booking it really is ridiculous that these things are not tested before guests arrival.

In the morning we arrived for breakfast, was told to wait as they were very busy. Waited 15 minutes, was told it would not be long be long and then after another 15 minutes was told we wouldn’t be getting any breakfast as the chef had walked out. The member of staff had said she had no support from her manager and felt like walking out herself. Felt like a total shambles! We were told she couldn’t refund breakfast and that the manager would call.

Of course the manager did not call and we have had to call to chase, spoke to the GM who was clueless and full of excuses.

This hotel could be so much better but is a total let down and disappointment. Did not deliver what was paid for.

Lodge on the Lake is situated in Broxmouth Park, about 10 mins from Dunbar and is owned by Bayswell Park Hotel. The Lodge is completely secluded in a beautiful estate overlooking a lake. The views over the lake were absolutely beautiful, especially at sunset. We only saw one person during our weekend stay so you do have privacy.

We were lucky enough to see several deer up close to the lodge and plenty other wildlife. There are paths you can walk around the private estate, although with lack of signs or a map we were unsure where we were going and if we were allowed to walk them.

The lodge itself has no WIFI, TV or mobile reception which adds to the secluded atmosphere. We used the opportunity to have a total 'digital detox'. We loved walking in and seeing a complimentary welcome pack in the kitchen with crisps, crumpets, pancakes, sweets, milk, prosecco etc. Towels, dressing gown and bathroom miniatures also supplied. A really nice and welcoming touch!

The lodge is beautifully decorated, welcoming and warm. The hot tub was lovely and we spent the evenings sipping prosecco and stargazing. A perfect place for a couple to relax and unwind.

You can see the beach and sea from the lodge but in order to get there you would need to leave the estate by car and go to Dunbar. We arrived stocked up with food for the weekend but Dunbar would be the nearest place to buy amenities.

We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend. However, the lodge does need a little TLC. The hot tub nozzles were constantly coming loose and floating around the tub, Plus, we could only get one side of jets working! The road leading to the lodge is a dirt track full of pot holes. It had rained the day before our arrival and the track was particularly bad and our taxi struggled; almost getting stuck in the mud. A map of walks, history of the estate, a selection of games (in addition to the dominos supplied) would also be useful.

Thought we would give Bayswell another try. Nope. Room 11. Nice view, window doesn't close properly, super drafty. Shower is absurd. Barely enough water pressure to clean up. No TV remote, crappy bed. You can barely sit on toilet because the shower wall partition is too close to it. Water stains, peeling plaster. Staff was pleasant.
