“Before wedding family get together”
Reviewed 26 September 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Bridge House was the most perfect place for our extended family to stay before my daughter's wedding in July. The facilities were terrific including the hot tub, the environs were breathtaking and the beds most comfortable; it was altogether a delightful stay as the family gathered before the wedding which was held at Broxmouth Park.. It is certainly a place I would visit again for a holiday when I next visit Scotland from my home in the USA. Thank you Simon for having such a great place and for all your help and attention.

“Lovely house, originally kitted out at some expense, needs a thorough overhall.”

This house is in a wonderfully secluded position, some directions included in the bumph would be helpful as the estate is quite large.Probably some time ago, possibly five or so years,it was refurbished to a high standard, however it has not been particularly well maintained. The plumbing is in need of a major overhall..the hot water tank is far too small to fill the bath, the water tank makes an incredible din when any water is used..no fun at night! The shower in the master bedroom was once all singing and dancing, now it's just full of buttons that don't work and could do with a really good clean. It is a great pity that more care has not been taken..no chair in the master bedroom..no bins in the bedrooms,a tiny tea pot for a large group, only nine knives,a two slice toaster,a lovely lamp in the drawing room, but no light bulb. They did come and replace the lavatory seat that was broken and removed the dead flowers. The jacussi was lovely and warm and as I said, the location beautiful. It did mention in the original bumph that the manor house was available for the bar, coffee, cinema, but we were asked to stay away.I think the house tends to be used to accommodate wedding guests and so is not quite geared up for other visitors. We did enjoy our stay, but the house was a little disappointing.

Thank you very much for your comments. The property has been refurbished to an exceptionally high standard and we have an ongoing program to maintain it at that level. Although I don't agree with your comment about a 'complete overhaul' as part of that program the plumbing issues raised have/are being fully addressed and the set up of the house has been reviewed and additions and improvements have been made where required. Broxmouth is a private estate and has been extremely successful in offering self catering accomodation for a number of years, without complaint, many return guests each year.

“Lovely stay - shame about the plumbing!”
Reviewed 20 January 2014 for a stay in January 2014

Stayed for a long weekend with family for my 40th birthday celebrations and was very impressed with the lovely house, gardens and setting. We asked if we could check in a bit early on Friday and were happily accommodated. Tom (the gounds keeper I think) met us at the house and showed us around, how to work the heating and hot tub then advised to call him if there is anything else we need.
We settled in, poured a glass of wine and enjoyed the beautiful views out the many aspects. As it was my birthday I got first dibs on bedroom so naturally selected the master room with en-suite shower room. The shower took a bit of time to figure out as it had lots of buttons and settings (some of which were worn off) but got there in the end and enjoyed a brilliant power shower with jets and plenty hot water. Unfortunately the same could not be said about the roll top bath. I had plans to enjoy a lovely hot bubble bath after a 5 hour walk on Sunday but there was no hot water to the bath or sink in the main bathroom. I called Tom out at about 5.30pm who arrived within 5 mins and fiddled around with the water tank. This should have resolved the issue but after relaxing in the outdoor hot tub for 2 hours we no longer bothered with the bath and didn't think to check the water temperature.
I can only assume the changes to the water tank are what caused the main bathroom shower to no longer produce hot water in the morning but as we were checking out anyway we just all used the en-suite electric shower. It is a pity about the hot water and would advise anyone staying to check this right away.
The other issue the house had was to do with the water pumps. There were two, one in the wardrobe in the master room and one in the twin room which fire up very loudly whenever any water is run or toilets flushed. This can be very disturbing when guests get up to use the loo during the night or early in the morning when you're trying to sleep. My sister was staying in the twin room just for one night and found that her bed actually vibrated each time the pump fired up. She was just glad she chose the bed furthest away from the cupboard otherwise she would have had an even more restless night than she did!
All that said, our weekend was really good and the house was lovely, comfortable and warm. The décor was very tasteful and cosy and the grounds were beautiful to look out on and explore. Plenty of room for parking if lots of cars coming and ample comfortable seating for 10 or even 12 at a push round the dinner table.
I would thoroughly recommend staying at Bridge House in Broxmouth Park, definitely explore the grounds and most definitely enjoy the hot tub no matter the weather!
Just check the water temp in the bathroom and take earplugs to block out the sound of the water pumps if you're a light sleeper!

Thank you very much for your comments, and we are delighted that you had a great stay at the Bridge House. Since your visit the plumbing for the property has been completely upgraded and there are no longer any pumps in the bedrooms, in addition to the provision of two further bathrooms. We would be delighted to welcome you back to the Bridge House at some point in the future.
