Stayed for one night ,b and b. All staff extremely good ,especially Judite in restaurant who was helpful ,efficient and friendly. Room was large and nicely decorated with e very essential catered for. Breakfast was also very good with lots of choice. Hotel in ideal position for a visit to Durham with a short walk into town .The only criticism was our evening meal and the ambience of restaurant at night. Far too dark except a couple of tables under a freestanding light. We struggled to read menu, some people were using the light from their phones to read menu. Food very mediocre ,we like unusual dishes and most foods ,but some of the combinations did not work..Wine at £22 was also disappointing tasted cheap and nasty ,Pinot Grigio blush. Advice is have dinner out.

Room tip: Rooms on front good views ,rooms on back very quiet.

The hotel is superbly located in the centre of Durham. Free parking and wi-fi with friendly and efficient staff. Rooms are clean and modern. The only reason I have given three stars instead of four is the food. Frozen fare I'm afraid was very apparent. Quality hotels don't use frozen chips and fish. Given the monks had Friars doesn't mean the food must be of a chip shop standard or below frankly. Use fresh fish and potatoes guys!

That said easily sorted and the rest of the offering is good. Sky sports One as part of the in room entertainment was welcomed and the staff as stated couldn't be more helpful so well done to them.

Excellent for business and leisure with top facilities.
