The Imperial gives guests a touch of class not often found in hotels these days. Excellent choice of menus and well trained pleasant staff with main courses served with that 'extra' touch of silver covered domes removed simultaneously. The hotel bedrooms and bathrooms are modern, comfortable and exceptionally clean with the option of a turndown service with a nice surprise of the used tea and coffee facilities being replaced. An enjoyable nights stay with friends in a town with a great high street and further walks to explore on the doorstep.

Room tip: You could request a room with a river view.

Thank you for your review of The Imperial Hotel, Barnstaple and rating us so highly.
Your positive feedback regarding our food, staff, service, accommodation and cleanliness will all be very much appreciated by all the departments concerned.
As you mentioned Barnstaple has a lot to offer, the town centre still retains a certain charm with plenty of independent stores and bigger names too. This makes the town a real hidden gem for serious shopaholics.
Thank you once again and we hope to welcome you back to The Imperial Hotel sometime soon.

We visited the Imperial for a four day Winter break, what a great experience. The room was upgraded to the best available as part of the offer, we were given fresh fruit in our room and a shopping discount card for the duration of our stay. The food here is always top quality and impossible to find fault with, except for weight increase it causes.

Room tip: If you can afford it go for a river view room it's worth the extra.

Your great feedback regarding you accommodation and 'faultless' food is lovely to read and apologies for any additional pounds gained!!. When on holiday though self restraint does take a back seat.
Thank you once again and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Imperial Hotel again sometime soon.

We hadn't been to the Imperial for 9 mths and were welcomed back by all the staff. Lovely room, everything we wanted, time to relax.
Enjoyed the food as usual..... and liked the changes to the style of menu.
Thank you Matthew and all your staff for a super weekend.

Room tip: 218 is a lovely room.... but after quite a few years we have never had a bad one.

We stayed as a family group - adults, composed of two doubles and a single. On a budget we sacrificed the choice of larger rooms and views across the Taw river but rooms were nicely decorated and comfortable.

We booked B&B but ended up dining in the Arlington restaurant all three nights!! The reason was our excellent experience on the first one. The service was definitely of the most pleasing kind, always available, friendly and seemingly unhurried. The small daily menus, a la carte and table d'hote, had something for everyone. Portions were good sizes (2 courses were more than enough) and flavours were really good. Unusually to our delight there were lots of nice vegetable accompaniments.

The front of house staff were equally friendly and professional and all the public areas comfortable and restful for coffee and newspapers, or later for aperitifs.

Decor throughout is top quality and does not try to fight with the fact that the hotel is a grand old lady.

The hotel is ideal for perhaps more mature people who appreciate service with a smile (and the occasional cheeky joke). It wouldn't be somewhere for families with younger children. For example, it definitely felt like a place that deserved making an effort to dress for dinner! Having said that the hotel is NOT intimidating.

It looks out over the Taw river, a few minutes stroll from the town's shops and the nice Rock park by the river.
