We can thoroughly recommend this place! We had a very friendly reception, a fantastic breakfast (fresh, well presented, eggs cooked perfectly) and the room was beautiful. The staff's attention to detail was excellent and we couldn't fault a thing. Surpassed our expectations and well worth the money.

Perfect location between Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere.

Will stay again!

Highly recommended.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Got a friendly welcome on check in however things went south really fast. On entering the room, it was very hot so tried to use the fan. Opened the cupboard and almost vomited with the stench from the cupboard. Closed my nose and took the fan out and it was all covered with dust. Couldn't open the windows because of insects coming in the room, couldnt use the fan, had to sleep in a hot room.
Next day, found out that shower was leaking from all places. Took a bath and then the hair dryer wasnt working. Was told that everything would be fixed by the evening.
Entered the room in the evening and now the entire room was stinking. Luckily the fan was clean but everytime we went out and entered the room we had to deal with a bad smell.
On checkout there was no one from the management to talk with.
Not worth 4 stars at all. Gave it 1 star because of good breakfast both days but nothing apart from that is good here. Wont recommend this hotel to anyone else.

The staff were very welcoming, our room was very comfy, we were lucky to be given an attic room, which was lovely as the weather was amazing and so we could have the windows open and with the fan they supply we were comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and very plentiful, I had English breakfast on day one and American pancakes on day 2 both were delicious. We celebrated our anniversary whilst there and we had left our cards on the bedside table when we went out for the day, when we arrived back the staff had left us an anniversary card and a bottle of Prosecco in an ice bucket, a lovely gesture that made our time there even more special.
Would definitely recommend this lovely hotel and the staff are very friendly and the service is impeccable.

Myself and my husband stayed in this little hotel for 5 days and booked a double room. Our room was room 7 on the second floor, which was very compact, but came with the essentials and had a four poster bed. Looking at the photos already uploaded, It will depend on the room you are given or have booked, that will determine your view and your experience of your stay here at the woodlands.

The positives of the Woodlands are that they have a friendly and helpful team if you need any assistance. It is a nice clean hotel with a great location in the middle of Windermere (10 minute walk) and Bowness-On-Windermere (15 minute walk). You will get a good hearty breakfast, with a variety of choices to set you up for the day, making this hotel a good base for your holiday in the Lake District.

The only downside is, if you are drawn into the 5 star advertising and are expecting silver service and top quality you would expect from such a high standard rating, you will be disappointed. We would not normally add negative comments, unless absolutely granted, but we really do agree with this regular occurring comment, that this is not a 5 star hotel, it is definitely more 3/3.5 star, which is in reflection to the size of the rooms and the finer finishing details that highlights a 5 star from the rest of the neighbouring hotels. I feel the '5' is reflecting on the bigger rooms which come with that extra 'sparkle' and is definitely not a consistent theme throughout the hotel in the smaller rooms, which is what would be expected from a 5 star.

Our last additional tip, would be to suggest an alternative choice of music at breakfast? It is the same playlist of really depressing piano music - your guests are on holiday! Maybe something more up to date and uplifting?

Lastly, we did use the spa facilities in the partner hotel down in Bowness, which was only a 4 star with so much more to offer with beautiful lakeside views. We would recommend using these facilities, especially after a long day of hiking.

Thank you for a comfortable stay, we would still recommend and return to the Woodlands as it is a great base for a lakes holiday, due to its excellent location, lovely staff and yummy breakfast.

Such a lovely Guesthouse perfectly located between Windermere and Bowness. The four poster bed was a treat, as were the little touches of the chocolate on the bed and luxury toiletries, little things I always remember and appreciate. The breakfast was divine, smoked salmon heaven and generous with it. A true British stay!
