During a family break in Windermere Marina Village we tried the Boathouse Restaurant one night. (I came a couple of other times to the bar for a cheeky pint of Bluebird Real Ale but ahem...we won't go into that.)
On a previous visit in 2015, our family discovered the restaurant to be relaxed and the food pleasurable.
The menu had now changed but the chef hadn't, I was informed. There was a slightly heavier bias - and why not for a boathouse - towards fish/seafood. It's now gone up a notch.
Our hake, prawn & pancetta linguine, sea bass and mussels were all very, very good dishes and took no longer to arrive than other restaurants who prepare from scratch. Perfectly cooked, fresh and full of flavour, they delightedly raised eyebrows. This isn't the cheapest restaurant in the world to visit but it represents excellent value and so needs to apologise for nothing. The service is friendly and fuss-free.
And what a view of the Southern Lake District as the sun went down.
