We used this ferry a number of times during our stay. Quick, efficient and cheap, although the ticket machine did seem to be causing one or two problems. Only runs when the wind is not too strong. Check the live web-cam before setting out.

A quick way across to the west bank. Make sure you don't just sit in the car; get out and look north for one of the finest views in the Lakes

Runs about every 20 minutes, so not long to wait, unless they can't fit your car on. We saw a long line of cars waiting to get to Bowness, some of which would have to wait at least 40 minutes. Foot passengers seem to able to get on without issue, but mainly confined to a corridor - which does at least have windows- running the length of the ferry- not much opportunity to stand in the small area at either end and enjoy the fresh air. Cars are loaded and unloaded very efficiently and at the time we went, Easter 2018, ticket machines were out of order so as foot passengers were paid our 50p each way as we boarded.
