Very popular cafe with the older generation, so we thought we were on to a winner. The place smelt of old frying oil which was bit off putting, never mind we thought after all all these other people must see something in the place.

Unfortunately we were wrong, their special batter was just one limp oily strip of yellow gloop, the fish was virtually non existant it must have been a (frozen) square of cod no bigger than 4 inches in size and not fish like in many ways - like the cod in a bag portions. The chips were very greasy. The tea cup was tiny almost like a cup for espresso coffee. The only real edible thing was the bread and butter.

Save you time, arteries and wallet IMO and find somewhere else to eat!

Being native to these shores I've visited many seaside towns and had many disappointing fish suppers. The way that these things work is that if somewhere is famous for a delicacy, then there will be more copy cats trying to cash in on the reputation. I'm glad to say that Harlequin Cafe isn't one of them.

I ordered a set meal - Medium Cod & Chips, with peas (the choice was mushy or not, I went for mushy) with a hot drink (opted for tea) and two white slices on the side. The price for this was around £8, which is a bit high, but the food was hot & tasty, well proportioned, fresh & the service was quick. I would eat here again. Granted it's no palace, decor wise, but it's clean and a pleasant place to eat.

We arrived in Weymouth On Sunday 19th June looking for a good cooked breakfast to set us up for the day.
Unfortunately what we got was less than a greasy spoon. Our breakfast order was:
one big boys breakfast ,Bacon ,Sausage,Egg with toast on the side with separate butter and 2 Teas
Firstly the tea arrived, one in a chipped Mug and tasted like it had been brewing for a week ,
When the breakfast arrived , the butter had been put into a small plastic pot along with the crumbs from previous customers toast. The sausage looked and tasted very cheap. The rest of the breakfast looked as appealing. On cutting the mushrooms a large amount of brown greasy liquid oozed out.
Needless to say at that point we left the breakfast and headed off to find a better one
In conclusion should you be visiting Weymouth this summer and are in need of a good breakfast try one of the other cafe's.

On a blowy, wet day in Weymouth, we needed somewhere dry to eat on the sea front, and found this little fish and chip bar that looks very ordinary. The man who served us was lovely, the helpings generous. Two delicious pieces of fresh fish each! Free refills to your cup of tea. Can't really comment on the atmosphere as we were the only ones in the sit down part - but then it was February!
