It was the end of the school holidays when we arrived but even do it was tricky finding a pitch. The toilets and showers were very clean but the noise from the road traffic ruined the 'idyllic' setting. A few idiots kept us awake but that is just luck. Otherwise do not hire bikes from Trax - the bikes supplied needed adjusting gearwise and were not the high spec promised. Also the cycling hats were not safe.

We had booked to stay at Hollands Wood for Bank Holiday weekend with some friends. We arrived (2 people of a party of 6) at about 2.30pm to be welcomed to a waterlogged campsite. While the rain is obviously beyond the control of the campsite, we soon learnt that the campsite was in the process of ringing other visitors to let them know about the waterlogged conditions. Considering the rain in the area had been there for a few days, it would have been nice to have got a phone call considering we had driven over 3 hours to get there. Due to the conditions, we were told that we could choose to stay or leave if we could not find somewhere to pitch. We drove round but there were huge puddles everywhere and was totally unsuitable for camping. The only decent areas were unavailable for camping on!!??! All of the plots were too small for larger parties with say 3 tents wanting to be together. Also worth mentioning another couple of disappointments such as the inability to take gazebos with you (who doesn't use a gazebo when camping with friends??) and a mysterious £20 "noise and nuisance bond" charged per person for larger parties. This is not mentioned on the website or on any leaflets for the camp site. We were even told by the member of staff to mention this to the company when ringing up for a refund to get them to make the information more available to people. It just seemed to us that they just made this up and it seems that there is no real way of arguing back if you cannot get the money back. Would not recommend and will not go back.

We went to Hollands wood campsite for our 1 year wedding anniversary and stayed for 3 nights. The campsite staff were very friendly and more than helpful. We booked online as we knew that they would be busy over the bank holiday weekend and paid £84. When we turned up they told us that if you just turn up without booking it would cost £6 per night and as we were backpacking we werent allowed to be turned away!! The toilets and showers were always clean and tidy. There is no electric hook ups here although at reception they will charge your mobiles, cameras etc for about 50p. The back of the campsite leads on to a great cycle path through the forest that ends up in a lovely village. All in all a wonderful place to camp, I would definitely go back!

Recently stayed at holland wood campsite with my wife & 2 children & many friends & the spot is v, nice but very big. To big if you have young kids as you can't keep an eye on them. Also you can't have open fires which is a real shame. The other thing is that the site is close to a road so if you want noise free sleep this isn't the campsite for you.
There is a chap there who monitors the payment of tents & extra visitors etc & he is a real pain the backside! He seems to think he is running a militry camp which really spoilt the trip.
So beware if you owe them 20p he will come knocking!!!!!!!!!!!
I would suggest somewhere else due to the above & because the camp staff are not friendly & would i hate to think what would happen if you had a real problem.
