Dome Garden
Reviewed 29 August 2012

I had to write this review of the Dome Garden because it is so different to any other sort of "tent" I have stayed in. The easiest way to think of it is you sleep at the edge of the forest in a mini "Eden Project" dome. And in our Dome the kids beds were suspended from the sides of the Dome. Us grown ups had a regular double with a crisp white duvet to sleep under.
Now the weather wasn't great this year, but no fear as you have an ample supply of wood and a stove in your Dome to keep you toasty at night, you also have a wood fired shower (brilliant!) and a couple of cooking fires. As you might have guessed all the fires means chopping wood, but it isn't that much of a chore and the kids loved carrying logs about the campsite. Well that is when they weren't swinging on the swings or playing on the zip wire.
In terms of what you need to bring it is just yourself, some food and a towel all the rest is there for you including pots, pans, matches, plates etc.
There is loads to do in the Forest nearby (excellent cycling at Cannop) and on the River Wye.
The Dome Garden is brilliant and I have no reservations about recommending them. We had an amazing week and John and Jonny couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating.
Make sure to sign up for Pizza Night!

Room Tip: Dome'itory was in a quite corner in the camp site so not too noisy at night.

I just wanted to write to say what a fantastic time we all had last week. I have to be honest we were a little apprehensive before arriving but the domes are fab and they have created something really special. The kids loved it and that made it for us. We met some lovely people, enjoyed making fire, and had a thoroughly good time. I would recommend a visit to the Dome Garden to anyone who fancies a bit of 'Glamping'

Room Tip: We stayed in a simple Dome called 'Bamboo', which was in a great position as you could see a...

This place is genuinely fabulous - my 7 year old was in heaven. The owners and designers have obviously worked hard to create accomdation which is private yet you are still able to be part of the community of kids/adults. The chickens were fab (more would be good to avoid kids queueing for eggs and putting hens under such pressure) the zip wire, pizza night, bonfire, tree house made the holiday. Great balance for us, camping but with pretty lovely bathroom and great use of kitchen microwave for babies bottles. I wish I could kep this place a secret for my bookings next year!!! 100% good. Thank you Jonny and team.

Room Tip: Super dome looked great for large party, not suitable for really little ones.

The dome garden is amazing. Myself and 7 friends enjoyed a relaxing weekend nestled amongst trees, domes and roaming chickens. We quickly got the hang of the wood fired ovens and were extremely impressed with the showers. John (the lovely kind man from the dome garden), gave us a very warm welcome and helped us with any queries. The location of the dome garden is excellent, it is a quick drive to the sculpture trail in the forest, clearwell caves and puzzlewood to name a few. I have two small children and will be returning with them very soon as they will love this place, especially the tree swings and campfire circle.

I stayed with my family, and my sister joined us with hers. We stayed for the only 5 sunny days of the summer and had a wonderful time. I have no idea what we were expecting, we were just won over by the cool photos on the website, and reality did not disappoint.

It is definitely a place where you need to buy into the ethos of what they're trying to achieve. The entire operation works on wood, which you cut and burn to heat everything; food, domes, showers. We all loved it, but if you want a cup of tea on demand at the flick of a kettle, this place might not really be, well, your cup of tea. (But, how good does a cup of tea taste when you have had to work hard to get it? Like no other!) We were fortunate with the weather, as our children spent the entire week running amok in the gardens. With crap weather, it would have been a very different experience, but I guess that's the same with everything.

Jonny, the owner and John, the manager, are excellent hosts, not intrusive but always around in case they are needed. They hosted memorable Pimms and Pizza nights during our stay (Special thanks for Jonny's children for also being excellent hosts!) They have created a holiday experience literally like no other - almost everything on site has been designed uniquely for the Dome Garden.

The local area is beautiful; this was our first time in this part of the world. Symonds Yat, Wye River, Forest cycling trails are all on the doorstep.

You could pay less elsewhere and have a much more conventional holiday, but this place is the stuff of memories that will live long with us and our children.
