Description: In October 2015 the redherring was successfully acquired by Andrew Kettlewell & Monica Gilligan, who bring with them over 10 years experience in the sector and together with a young and talented chef, Hayden Green, have over the past 17 months put together a business that strives to be everything that a quality food led establishment should be. Featuring a very regularly changing menu allows us to serve what is at its very best at any given time of year whether it’s the seasons first asparagus, fall fungi or quality game throughout the colder months we passionately believe in the ingredients we put on your plate and hope you will agree! We are also fortunate enough to have strong relationships with some of the finest spirit suppliers in the country and have what is quite possibly the most extensive back bar around, boasting a smorgasbord of artisan 50 plus gins & vodka’s as well as over 30 select rum’s, cognac’s & single malt’s. We also understand that good food is made better with good wine so to that extent we have carefully chosen a list that balances exciting new world wines with some classic old world heavy weights. Our wine list like our menu is updated with the seasons. On Sundays we offer classic roast dinners with everything you would expect from locally sourced meat to proper in season vegetables and stock gravies – certainly not your typical roast! With our newly opened private dining room which has its own bespoke tasting menu, we strive to ensure everybody enjoys every moment they spend with us.

Excellent food tastefully presented. Very good service and competitive pricing on a very varied menu. Quirky situation and decor..

My partner took me to this restaurant for my birthday and I don't think she could have chosen better.
Miserable weather, but once inside, it was warm and welcoming, with very friendly staff. I've seen other reviews about expensive meals, but I thought they were on par with other places. Had the red snapper starter, then salmon main, my partner had snapper, then cod main and all were delicious, freshly cooked and we didn't wait long to be served. We will definitely be returning for another meal.

Went here before Christmas and had a fabulous meal, Thought this has to be the best place to eat in Lowestoft at the moment. We were very much looking forward to our second visit and ..... very disappointed. Food was very average and there was a lack of beer on pump. Also Iit seemed the waiter was trying to get us to purchase more drinks than we asked for. The food was nowhere near as good as our last visit and for the price you pay I was very disappointed especially as when we went previously it was superb. I’m sorry to say it will be a while before we return

Towards the end of a great boating holiday our friends had booked dinner at Redherring. We had had some good food over the week and so hoped for similar here but it exceeded everything we had experienced previously.
The welcome was warm and we were asked if we wanted a drink before going to the table and when we spotted the great range of gins and obvious enthusiasm the staff had for gins matched our love of gin so we had to indulge.
We then sat down and went through the menu, all of which sounded so tasty. most of us went for the scallop started and it was delicious the lemon flavour jumping out from the dressing and the different bacon textures combining with the perfectly cooked scallops.
Mains we has hake, pork belly, lamb and pesto pasta all of which were perfectly cooked and delicious.
Puddings selected included sorbet, pecan pie, white chocolate torte and cheese board all were enjoyed only problem was the texture of the torte - tasty but a bit too glutenous and sticky maybe.
We all really enjoyed the evening and will definitely return if we are in the area again.
