A very rundown hotel with indifferent staff - the bar tender was in the garden smoking while customers waited to be served. The manager was off hand when asked why nobody was serving. The hotel is very tired. The bathroom was poor and had only two rather grubby, thin towels for 3 people. Never again!

Stayed here in March, I flew over from Bahrain and arrived in Buxton at about 11am tired and wanting my bed. My room was ready and it was no extra cost to check in early. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. My room was lovely and cosy. It was clean and the bed was extremely comfy. The complimentary shampoo and conditioner were a godsend after forgetting to pack my toiletries. Louise and Eva that work there are such nice friendly people

Stayed in the Brad Pitt room last time and this weekend in the Kevin Costner room!!!. Dated from the outside but rooms are lovely can't fault it at all. Lovely hot shower and very comfy bed. Also lovely and warm and heating not even on. Looking forward to our next visit to see which room we get next time!!!. Buxton is lovely and well worth a visit.

Firstly I'd like to say how central this location is. We were amazed it was just a stone throw away from the central Park, opera house and pubs. The building is so old! You can imagine the sights it has seen over the years. But look, it does need work, it isn't a luxury hotel, but for the price ...we werent expecting one. I looked at some reviews of this hotel before we stayed...and felt quite sorry for this hotel. As yes a big company could buy this hotel and turn it into every other chain hotel out there ..which with its cinema memorabilia themed rooms ...this certainly is not! But it gave us quite a talking point. The rooms and sheets were clean and the bathroom we had in the suite had the most gorgeous bath. I would stay in our room again it was huge. If you want a standard room and hotel which has no surprises pay the extra for another hotel. If you want cheap and the strange stay here.

Booked this hotel for 1 night through booking.com. Arrived and thought it was derelict at first however went inside and found reception. (Think Jack Nicholson the shining) old smelly and dilapidated. Against our better judgement got the key to room 28 called the voodoo room (REALLY) dirty room very weird pictures and under no circumstances were we staying. So took the key back to reception and told the man. His reply “ oh ok” so £65 we’ll spent to find a place where NOT to stay. Please if you think about booking this place give £65 to a donkey sanctuary your local church a homeless person anything but pay to stay in this spooky hotel run by the Bates family whose best friend is Mr voodoo from live and let die!!!
