I had six wonderful nights at this wonderful B&B. The hospitality was great and very family based. The room was very comfortable with a pleasant view across to Grin Low. Breakfast was amazing and I'm really missing it now I'm back home. I enjoyed a hiking holiday in this beautiful part of the world as well as visiting some beautiful local sites and the hostess was always interested in what I had done joining in some great conversations. Highly recommended and very reasonable.

Room Tip: Few rooms to choose from but fairly certain all are of good quality.

thanks very much for your positive comments - we will always try and make people welcome. The key for us is our B and B is our family home and this is the basis upon which we run things - therefore if we can help people out by lending maps etc we will do. thanks

Our stay at Hilbre could not have been more comfortable. Large bedroom with a huge comfy bed, fantastic breakfast. Tiny bathroom but good shower. Eco credentials to a high standard, much appreciated. Perfect refuge in a good location.

Philippa was a delight and so helpful to us, fitting in with our timings and other requirements, despite having other jobs to do. Hilbre was my childhood home so I went with mixed feelings. It is at the northern end of Buxton in a quiet road, where one can park easily and there is a bus service into town if you don't want to walk. Our hosts couldn't have been more welcoming. They have retained as much of the Edwardian atmosphere of the house as they could and have made it much cosier than it ever was when we were there. The house is a great place to stay for walkers and cyclists. During our two days there, we feasted on nostalgia in Buxton and around Derbyshire, which was at its very warm best. We slept in a wonderfully comfortable bed in what was our nursery in the early 1940's! It is a large room with high ceilings and has a couple of windows which look out on the turrets of the house next door, as well as the fields beyond. It has a tiny en suite which was perfectly adequate. We shall return to bore Philippa with more stories of our mis-spent childhood. Buxton Opera House and the Pavilion Gardens are worth a visit. The Crescent (Georgian) is being renovated at the moment and will doubtless attract more visitors when the new spa opens. I'd like to have slid down the bannisters again but I expect Philippa might have disapproved.

Room Tip: The double room is larger and has a small en suite. The single room occupant uses the main bathroom and separate loo.
