Great place just outside Newbury. A proper castle with views all around. Yes it is in ruins but it wouldn't be a proper castle otherwise. No facilities but a great place to walk, sit, have a picnic and enjoy the views.

We visited one Saturday in March when the weather was not good; however, the views were nice and the ruin is impressive. After our visit, we found that Queen Elizabeth 1 owned the castle and lived there for a while. This is no entirely obvious when you visit the site and suggests the need for better signage and an interpretation centre.

Could have had more Information and history information, but it is a castle on a hill that has fallen into ruin. Car Park at the Bottom of the hill. Paths are rough and NO Toilets. Been once won't be back.

Enjoyed an hour walking round the castle. Would have liked to see an information plaque explaining more about the castle history.

We went to Donnington Castle after spending night at local B/B, we picked up a wheelchair for myself at the reception point, had a good look around all the rooms, my daughter went upstairs to explore, I stayed downstairs because of the crowds, really enjoyed the house, and then had lunch sitting under large tree, spent the last 2 hours going all around grounds and seeing 'Tutenkamun Treasures' - really good day
