We stopped by here on a bit of a whim, and were delighted that we did. The food was excellent - whilst we felt we'd taken a punt dining somewhere we'd never been before, The Rising Sun did not disappoint. Even when the meal I wanted wasn't available the chef magicked up a substitute that was simply divine. Will definitely be visiting again ...

Third time I have visited the The Rising Sun ( which is at Sidford NOT Sidmouth) taking my elderly mother out for Sunday lunch. The food and service are excellent. I can't understand why this place isnt booked out when other pubs nearby, that don't do such good food and cost a lot more, are. Maybe it is because there is no carpark? NOT an issue, there is a council carpark (free on a Sunday and cheep at other times) in spitting distance.
The staff go out of their way to be helpful, the food is excellent and propper Devonian portion sizes!
They keep three or four real ales and three or four real ciders on tap and look after it very well.
The Rising Sun deserves to be a lot busier than it is.

Not very welcoming!
Sat ourselves down with little dog, ordered our meal, cutlury delivered, food arrived 35 minutes later and told we should not have been sitting where we were with dog! Dogs have to sit in bar area - shame no notice on wall as you walk in. But we were told generously we could stay where we were as she had our meals in her hand. Goats cheese lasagna very dry and dull, meat kebab much better. 6 people eating, long wait for food.

Visited the Rising Sun last evening and enjoyed a lovely meal with friends. We were given a warm welcome and found the staff very friendly and helpful. There was a varied menu to choose from as well as a specials board. Very tasteful decor and spotlessly clean. Our meals were served hot, presented well and delicious. The food and drink was sensibly priced. Altogether a very enjoyable evening. We will be returning. Thank you.
