We visited twice during our holiday break in Sidmouth. The Restaurant is compact so the tables are close together out of necessity, decor is basic but clean. They really need to sort out the entrance door which sticks badly, so much so that we saw one gentleman struggle to leave the restaurant. The table next to the door should be avoided. Restaurants are all about food and this is where it scores, overall the starters and mains were very good and the Naan Bread the best we have had in a long time. The Chicken Tikka Balti was closer to Madras hot rather than medium as described otherwise the meal was spot on. There is good take away trade so there is a slight delay with the service at peak times but not overly so. The restaurant is unlicensed so take any alcoholic drinks with you which is a bonus as far as I am concerned. The bill was around £30 for the two of us each having 2 courses without poppadoms. Highly recommend for a no frills curry.

Really not good pink Chicken in my curry!! Not good. They said the order will take about an hour. But at the door in about 15 mins!! The chicken was pink in the middle ! And a little chewy! Like it was uncooked! So I have a funny tummy at times and I stopped eating it. Just did not look right at all. Got told it was pre cooked. You never want to here that really do you. Got told that they would bring us another. But I said don’t bother. They said we can give you some money off the next order I said no that’s fine. It’s not the first time we had have had a problem. One time we had hairs in our meal that looked like Pubes !! I know that’s seems bad but. We did not order for a while. And then we gave them another chance. Had some good ones. But now this!!

We had good recommendations of this Indian, having been to the Cinnamon across the road before. It was very busy and the only table available for 4 of us was 1845 on the Saturday, which is a good sign of its popularity.
We knew you took your own booze, not a problem.
However, it seems to be a takeaway with a few tables as an added bonus!
Very basic interior, paper tablecloths and napkins, cramped and very steamy. They need to replace the panelling missing from the “porch”!
The new waiter was eager to take our order and poppadoms arrived quickly, just as well as we had an hour wait for our mains!! The takeaway hotline was in constant demand and we have to assume they took precedence over the seated clientele.
When the food finally arrived, it was ok, nothing special actually, the lamb dish very chewy. No hot plates / warmers to keep the dishes hot.
We asked for a doggy bag and the waiter bought empty foils to our table to do it ourself! Bizarre!
Disappointed and would not go back out of choice

While on holiday in Sidmouth we ordered a takeaway on the strength of tripadvisor reviews. Don't be put off by the exterior/interior look of the restaurant, the food is absolutely delicious, plentiful and good value! The chicken ceylon had huge, tender pieces of chicken, the bombay aloo huge chunks of potato, and one portion of rice was enough for two! If you want to dine in, the restaurant itself is tiny and the tables quite close together, and you have to take your own drinks (that is probably a bonus!?) but you won't be disappointed with the food!
