Description: Serving the Lemsford community for more than 200 years, the building was originally a farmhouse called Hornbeam Hall. Its use as an inn dates back to 1756 when it was called The Chequers. In 1777 Searanckes Brewery of Hatfield acquired the building which remained as The Chequers until 1968 when it was renamed The Crooked Chimney after its distinctive crooked brick chimney. The Crooked Chimney in Welwyn Garden is a country pub & restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar. Book a table and enjoy a spot by our roaring log-fire. Or make the best of the British summertime by eating alfresco in our pretty beer garden.

Visited on Friday 25 May for lunch and were impressed with the quaintness of the
building and the lovely gardens, also the extensive menu offerings. We got ordered
steak sandwiches with triple cooked chips . Unfortunately the steak was very much
on the chewy side, which was a real shame as we had high expectations of the
venue. No meal check was done either, so we had to mark this one down to experience!

A very nice country pub with food. I was a little disappointed that the light snacks finished at 17:00, I didn’t want anything heavy, we arrived at 17:20. There’s a sit down table service or find a table and order at the bar. There’s plenty of parking and a large garden.

Chose to go here with my best friend for dinner. It's just up the road but haven't been for a year or so. It was very busy for a Thursday night but we found a table in the bar area and ordered without trouble. The food came within 15 mins which wasn't bad and we had a seafood risotto and a calamari. Both very hot and tasty. Although I was told my friends calamari was a bit tough! Will visit again and try something else. A great pub for a drink
