I had the mushroom and spinach wellington with assorted veg and it was really good; my wife had the meat Sunday roast and thought that was very good too. Our friend who was with us was trying to eat gluten-free and found the menu rather confusing, so perhaps some work could be done on the definitions the next time it is re-printed. Shame about the noisy child who wasn't kept quiet by her parents but not the pub's fault...without the uncontrolled noise it would have been a very pleasant environment.

We have been visiting the Brocket Arms for about 50 years! It has had it’s ups and downs in the past, but is currently in the very capable hands of Kelly and her team, and has never been better! The location is just wonderful - in the interesting hamlet of Ayot St Lawrence, with it’s Palladian Church and George Bernard Shaw’s former home. Both worth a visit. The Brocket Arms has a lovely garden, for summer lunchtimes, but is also one of the coziest pubs I know in the winter! Food is always good, and there are 3 or 4 very comfortable bedrooms. On this occasion we were meeting a large group of old friends in the garden, and Kelly laid on a Super buffet for us. We live in California, but always come back to stay, or just have a drink at The Brocket, which has kept it’s original country pub ambiance, while moving with the times as far as service, menu, cleanliness etc. It has not been turned into a Gastropub. Hurrah for that!

The burgers and chips are excellent, but overpriced at £12.95 with two extras (onions and cheese). Half the real ales were not available, although the ones that on tap were very well kept. The service was curt and not very friendly compared to how it used to be.

Me and my motorcycling mate always enjoy riding over here. Despite the heavy rain yesterday we had another great visit. We sat outside in the garden area where there are umbrellas up on some of the outside tables which was most enjoyable. As ever the lunch was perfect. The roast beef and selection of vegetables all cooked to perfection..always busy this pub and a real jewel in the crown. STAFF are all fantastic.

Popped in for lunch after another of our walks in the area. The beer was excellent, as always - they specialise in local brews. The lunch menu meets most needs from sandwiches to snacks and main meals. My wife always goes for the "Warm Salad of Roasted Mediterranean Vegetables and Feta Cheese", good as usual, she said. I tried the "Vegetarian Burger Topped with Roasted Red Peppers and Cheese with Salad Garnish and Shoestring Fries". Very nice, but I still prefer the excellent "Spicy Handmade Char-Grilled Lamb Burger in a Floured Bun with Mint Yoghurt, Salad Garnish and Shoestring Fries", which I have had before. The "Toasted Goats Cheese En Croute with Poached Pear, Walnuts and a Balsamic-Dressed Salad" is another of my favourites. Great walkers pub if you want good beer and good food served by friendly staff. Recommended
