I selected the ibis since I was only there for one night and it was close enough to the Hadrian's Wall trail and had a reasonable price.

The good things: Central location near the train station and restaurants. The bed was firm but comfortable, the cost was very reasonable, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and even with COVID restrictions they made the best of breakfast for everyone. Best of all they realize they are next to what is normally the loud bar area so they provide ear plugs for guests.

The bad things: A very basic room, barely large enough if you have a large suitcase, cramped bathroom. These were minor things as I only planned to be there for 1 night, so if you plan for more than 2 nights it can get old.

Room tip: Doesn't matter which way the room faces, inner pedestrian way can be just as loud when the bar patrons leave.

Compact but comfy room. Too warm as always - we turned the heating down to the minimum, opened the window as far as the security cable would allow, took the duvet out and slept under the empty cover.

Location is good for the centre, but being near the pubs and clubs means it gets noisy at kicking out time in the early hours.

Room tip: Rooms in the south east corner would probably be quieter

We stayed here for three nights (Fri-Sun), and it is a great central location. However, you ARE in the heart of the night club scene... Our room was on the main road opposite the clubs, and to be fair, you can barely hear the music.

The guests however, who were visiting the clubs were drunken and inconsiderate (the ones we experienced). Loud, yelling in corridors and just don't care about anyone else. Not really the hotel's fault but they provide ear plugs as they must know to expect it. Friday and Sunday night were quite uneventuful (yay!). I may sound like a grump, but having a two year old makes you pray for some peace, or just considerate guests. When we called down the once, the staff seemed understanding and on it.

Rooms are very basic, and the bathroom outside shape reminds me of the toilets on a Virgin pendolino train, but tea and coffee is provided, and the rooms does the job. Breakfast is VERY good and well worth the £8.99. I would stay here again, but try and perhaps avoid a Saturday night.

Oh, and free parking! Don't pay before you check in as I have read some other guests have done. Some mention a strip club, but we didn't experience anything that bothered us, so no issues there.

Room tip: Ask for off the main road if it bothers you, but we barely heard anything on roads or streets.

This hotel is right in the city centre, free parking is provided, on check in, the front is situated on a very busy party street but is so close to the castle and other locations, a short walk takes you away from the party bars, into a much quieter city centre.
