I stayed here for one night on a business trip to Carlisle. I'll start with a positive which was the staff, they were friendly and tried to give good customer service. The big negative is the hotel itself, it is tired, the décor and furniture doesn't look like its been refreshed in years. My room had old metal framed windows, with aluminium secondary glazing panels (must be at least 25 years old). The outer windows would not close reducing the sound isolation. This meant I was woken at 5.30 a.m. by the announcements in the neighbouring railway station. The shower then did not work. Perversely there was black mould growth in the bathroom, and peeling paint in the room. All pretty sad and I would not stay here again.

Room Tip: If you do have to stay here avoid being on the railway station side.

Chanced on this hotel for an overnight break. Most efficient and helpful receptionist, parts of the hotel could do with refreshing. Room good and spacious as was the bathroom. Breakfast buffet really good with plenty of choice - even for vegetarians. Excellent value for money and will use again!!

Me and wife stayed for 3 nights, we have stayed here before but a fair few years ago and the hotel has deteriorated over the years, written a questionnaire and gave it to the staff at reception, was hoping for them to contact me about this but nothing hence this review have attached photos of how dirty rooms are

the hotel is in a perfect location to eat, drink, shop, explore and be merry! the staff were fantastic so warm and welcoming, we had two shih tzus with us and they were made a fuss off from the moment we arrived. i have never stayed in a hotel that makes dogs so very welcome. the hotel itself is a little dated and could do with some TLC but it has immense character. we will definitely return

Room Tip: very busy over the bank holiday book early

I stayed over for 1 night bed only.
The car park was a little difficult to find as you need to come off the main road and round the back of the hotel. You can enter the hotel from the car park and there is 24hr cctv - this is free for guests you just need to enter your registration when checking in.
The receptionist was very helpful and friend giving all relevant information.
The room had the basics which were great. Parts were a little tired and needed some work but overall clean and comfortable.
I didn't use the restaurant but there are plenty of pubs/restaurants with walking distance of needed.
I would return and recommend the hotel

Stayed: March 2018, travelled solo
