I originally purchased this two day break through Groupon as a pre-wedding stress buster for my fiance but the popularity of the deal was such that we could only book for 6 weeks after the wedding. Booking was the only down side in that the online calendar wasn't very intuitive if you were trying to book a short break, it was hard to get a response by phone and emails took some time to be answered but the reason for that was clear once we arrived to find it was part of a working farm - i guess you have to work round the cows.
Having stayed there, I can understand why it was hard to book in as the site is charming and the restored buildings which retain some of their original features are well appointed and very clean. We were concerned we'd feel lost in such a big property as there were only two of us, but it still felt cosy. The kitchen was wonderful - I was inspired to bake bread for the first time in ages - and the bedrooms were a good size but still small enough to stay warm even though the weather wasn't great. Bathroom facilities were great - we had an en suite which if you had the house at capacity would be a perk indeed but the other bathrooms were spacious. For a holiday let the kitchen was very well equipped, including washing up liquid, cloths etc which is something that's often lacking elsewhere and is a pain to have to buy or take with you. The fact that Liz sends the inventory in advance means that you can plan what extras you need to take, which would be even more useful with a large party.
The spa is perfect for what it is intended to be - an extra treat as part of a holiday let. I can see it would have made a brilliant hen venue as many of the other reviewers have found. If you're looking for a Sanctuary style spa experience full of heavy brocade cushions and overpriced lotions this is not for you but if you want a fun space to relax in with reasonably priced treatments as an option, you couldn't do better. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning of exclusive use - much nicer for a get-away than sharing a jacuzzi in a noisy pool with a host of strangers. We'll certainly be back as a couple and it's also a serious contender for the group holiday that we've been looking to plan but struggling to find the right venue.
