As soon as we pulled into the driveway of Farthings, we knew we'd made a good choice. We were only looking for a stop-over on our way to Cornwall, but I wish we could have had at least one more night there. The room we were given was just lovely: spacious, welcoming, and comfortable. The tea and coffee tray had proper china cups and saucers, along with a china teapot: milk was fetched from the fridge on the landing in the jug provided.
We had dinner and breakfast in the bar because we were with our dog, but we think we may have been able to dine with her in the restaurant at breakfast; there was some confusion about that point. The food was delicious and there was a good choice of wines. The family cure their own bacon, and source all their produce from their own garden or local suppliers: this definitely came through in the quality of our dinner and breakfast. We both had the eggs benedict for breakfast, which came with the best bacon I've ever tasted, and a delicious duck egg. If we have the opportunity to stay again I'd have the full breakfast so I could try their sausages as well, which they make themselves.
I thoroughly recommend a stay at Farthings if you're looking for a charming, English country hotel, with delicious food, and a welcome for your dog.More
